At last the mystery has been  solved
the case of the bogging down  carbs  this case has dragged on since 2016
the patient a rh motor in a standard frame  sounds simple ,but with out the insight of Mal P this could of gone on for ever ,  Mal spotted the fault straight away
a RH motor running with a standard tci and advance mechanism
with a bit of tinkering and fiddling the problem was fixed and the motor was purring like a kitten  reassembled and ckecked  figured out a minor hiccup  the bike  is running well
a big thank you to every one who had helped  in the problem solving

Hi all
I took the out fit for a run yesterday more of a final test any way, fresh fuel in the tank warmed her up for a few minutes and headed out  started off well enough no popping  or any thing  so to Mt Glorious is the destination multipule gear changes long slow cornering didn t fly the chair once unusual for me,  the bike handled it well got to the top  It was popping a few times  no real load  involved and a few times backing off the throttle other than that a good run  so I think the patient is almost recovered  it dose get  a bit smokey  when its hot  but I put that down to oil on the motor
 thanks again to all  involved

Hi Hen
Yes headers are in getting coated as we speak, seemed like a lovely couple who run the business and they said my pipes weren't that bad with rust pitting so should turn out very good. fingers crossed.
So to painting Hen,
My source is Greg at Colourfast DIY at Yatala, few doors down from Yatala Pies!!
First i removed both wheels from bike and degreased with a citrus based degreaser not CAUSTIC, because you do not want to remove the old paint just remove grime and so on. i also did rotors as well.
Then start sanding very lightly to smooth out old paint,
blending or feathering some might say, that is were the term DIRECT TO METAL comes from, the surface is not bare eg sand blasting or to course gritt sandpaper.
I only use around 360 to 700 gritt. maybe 240 but just lightly.
The wheels did take a few hours to strip the rotors off and drive gear protector and to tape all the chrome parts and then trim excess tape with blade which some might say is therapeutic but pain in the arse is what i say.
once that is done you can use any standard 2 pac paint eg i used gloss black which is mixed 2 to 1 with 10% thinners which is easier then it sounds Greg will give you cups that are idiot proof will if i can do it.
The painting is the easiest part maybe 3 minutes max for both wheels first coat, very light and then re coat in 20 minutes or tacky to the touch then a wet heaver coat and then i left for a week to cure.
Greg Colorfast Yatala 34121400 (top Bloke) loves a chat so give yourself an hour ! lol and i live 2 minutes away so if you need to borrow a spray gun or just a chat pop in here.
Hope this helps
Dave

Hi all , its been a few days since the work shop day
first off  thanks to Geoff  for the time and effort involved
and it was good to meet new member Dave  and his 78 is something to see
any way back to the story Geoff arrived with Errol and Bryan and Hen showed up too the A team we got down to business swapping air boxes and carbs which had been run from Bundy to Brissy  no probs
swap  out completed  bike fired up and poked and prodded  while this was going on lunch was served  for the hungry hoards   the bike got run round the block  power was better still a little poppy   took it out sunday for tyre pressure check gave it a squeeze on a side street it popped and crackled  then settled  did the shopping run tonight  let her warm up  off we went  no popping no lag  and it didn t struggle to get out the drive way  sounded like a XS should  purring
and  again thanks to all who helped

heres a bit of workshop video

my side of the wash up,,
after Tims initial visit and not having the bike running right, he left with the bike ina condition that ran but not great,, kind of like being happy with a prickle in your reg grundies

this weekend was sighted from a while ago as an ideal time to revisit, so with a 5.15 leave time I slipped over to Ev,s picked him up and rode the freeway to Bryans first,

with a 1/2 hr of show and tell, {like a proud dad} we ogled the project as it sat in half it,s glory,

then onwards to Tims where the carbs and airboxs were swapped, along with tci boxes,

we got to meet a new forum member in David Dodd, whos, 78 std is a machine to drool over, built by himself and his dad, we had a look over a tap that had been exchanged thruogh the barefoot garage program, turned out that our fuel tanks need to be clean cause crap gets into everything, another project for him to follow up on,

Tim "blocked" his bike and was much happier with the power output, although there are still an electrical gremlin or two that need sorting

we said our hooroos after all bikes were sorted and running and after a quick coffee at Evs sons place arrived home about 10 pm

I was thinking whilst driving today, that it would pay to drain all fuel holders and get rid of the fuel that looks like water while your doing the taps

Hi all
well after a total pulmonary/lung transplant it would seem I have contracted a slight case of carpal tunnel syndrome / crushed nerve/wire  so this would explain why we were having so many head scratching sessions  odd 3 bikes all showing the same symptoms ps the original fuse boxes corrode after years of use and don't allow proper current flow   as per  Scarfy's theory  ,any way the patient is a little further along the road to a full recovery  thanks to the Bundy  XS hospital

foot note
Remember electricity is made out of smoke. If you join the wrong wires the smoke will get out and it won't work anymore. Smoke can't get through water so everything has to be dry. It all stands to reason really

so we have the outfit in hospital and patients are on the table all disected and unsterile,
major issues with butterfly shaft seals and, a good thorough going over and clean with new kits through out will see it humming like cat purring like a bee,
a small video of procedure will follow
