yep for your average $2500? XS11 the stock ignition is perfectly good and costs nothing, modern aftermarket digital no doubt a bit better,  the coils are what spark the plugs, dynacoils whack out a really good spark with the stock ignition,  they give more crackle, but they don't improve top speed or anything,  performance really means all-round starting and generally riding around

Funny............i thought that is what Yamaha took care of when they manufactured these machines in 1978 !!

I wonder about that too PG....I wonder that mine would be better....unlike the XS11's, the laverdas don't start or idle well
in their natural state - these units make a big difference there

Quite wrong pg. Made a marked difference to mine when installed, ran smoother and fuel consumption got a bit better and seemed to rev out easier.

I have assisted installing the Sachse unit to Laverdas... nice and easy - various advance curves
they are a good thing I reckon

either KIT00090 or KIT00290 (comes with micro coils)

No the Saches is another type, Mad Bill is using them now. They make a unit that fits straight on without mods

I have the original Boyer that Bill got for me back in about ?  a while ago.
He made the mods to the back plate and pickup rotor.

Works like a charm, I will stick with the Boyer.
The difference was very noticable as soon as It was on, no hassles just worked.engine ran quicker and smoother and consumption improved.
That was even before I put the XJR1200 carbs on and then that made an even bigger improvement.

So Carbs and ignition jumping into the 21 century (sort of) made the world of difference.

vacuum at idle at that one small opening - there has to be some but there cant be much -
1100cc capacity divide by 4 (one cylinder) .275litre
its a 4 stroke so the inlet valve only opens each 4th stroke
so at 800 rpm its sucking a volume of 55 litres a minute or 0.9167 litres a second

but i agree  - the spring in the unit is gauged to suit...

it'll be a moot point once i go electronic...................
