pod filters

i changed to POD's because my new XS had no fuel tank when i got it and at the time brought a smaller tank and put on aftermarket fuel taps, the new taps look nice but hit the air box, now i wish i had waited till a bigger tank came on the market . i,m still trying to stop my carbs leaking ( the floats were all sucked in and full of fuel) and it need carby kits. but that's another story.

I agree with Kiwi and Steptoe -
The info I have is that the carbs need to draw still air so ideally the pods would
still need to be within a box - sorta defeats the purpose

Interesting comments and most welcome, haven't decided on which course, but it does seem a bit of work to change to the POD's verses staying original.

they're CV carbs they come as a system with airbox, long velocity stacks and intake snorkel, changing to pods is for looks only, for street/road riding pods won't match airbox setup

foam and paper air filters clog fast and permanent and restrict the F out of the engine,  go proper k&n they're a pleated wire mesh/cotton fibre combo, will out-live the owner, keep the fibre oiled,  clean it by swishing in a bowl of petrol.,

always the usual fluffy farty CV carbs when mated to pods are an annoying pita..  some will claim nah they're fine..  but they're just telling lies...  hoho

the airbox setup you can mod with a few extra holes drilled in the bottom for a bit more air intake,  the crankbreather hose you plug with a small foam-filled tube or suchlike.   tape over the crank-hose hole in the box

 the spidery "re-breather" inside the box you can remove and throw into the junkpile, 
 
hand-wringers will say there's more microscopic "wear" inside the engine with a free-er flow filter, hoho still the engine'll out-live them too...

if you fellas want these bikes to breathe better, throw the foam filter away and buy a K and N  paper filter and run it dry, it,s all you,ll need

    You definitely have to let the motor breathe through those lines or you risk the motor leaking from places it didn't beforehand.
I'd go with the little filters to keep the bugs out and it'd be neat if they matched the carb pods as well.

Any particular reason you want to ditch the standard airbox, which everything is designed to work with?

I am thinking the same, what about the breather hoses from the carburettors and the gear box, did you fit other little breather filters or clamped them off? just after some advise..

Hi all
I'm going to remove the air box and put some pod filters on, i like the pod filter form mikes xs.
With some of the other bikes that i have done this on i have had to change the main jet. do i need to on the xs ? if so what size have others used? and where is the best place to get the Jet?
