Hey guys. Just been looking and thought it may be useful to make a note of the std battery specs i found...

YTX24HL
21Ah
6.53 kg
205X87X162mm
350CCA

Interesting that the battery listed by Shorai is 27Ah and 405CCA...

They reckon it`s good for two years without a top up & I believe them.

So (not being familiar with li-on motorcycle batteries) do these still charge through running like a normal battery? Or do you have to buy the separate charger and charge them when they're low???

**EDIT** Actually disregard that, made a phone call and got most of the info I need! Turns out the guys that run the website of the link I posted above are also in Coffs Harbour. Makes things a little easier!

Thanks for your help guys!

I got a Shorai that is used as a spare on dirt bike trips. (They give you packing so it can fit many models incl my FJ.) Weighs less than a cup of coffee and doesn`t seem to ever need charging?. They reckon it`s good for two years without a top up & I believe them. If you ever seen the jolting of the rear of my DR650 when in the bush, you`d wonder how it survives in my top bag. (have used it to start my car once.)

I reckon everyone should own at least one. imho

Haha my 160cm 70kg body probably wont be able to kick it!! Not overly keen on that. I guess more so after the smallest possible battery that will run the starter...

you might have to go kick start if you go for real small battery, the parts can be sourced to make your motor kickable

Talk to me about batteries...

Hey guys,

I'll need to get a battery for my XS1100 project - and as i don't have a lot of experience with these bikes i thought i would ask.

Can you advise me on the smallest possible battery that will start these and be somewhat reliable? I'm building a cafe bike and i'd love to be able to tuck it up under the seat cowling...

Thanks guys!
Appreciate it :)
