Project 3131 is alive and purring

First of all thanks to all the help in getting to the route cause of the heaps of problems with 3131,

Carbs:

I bought a set from the US about 4 years ago. fully rebuilt and newinside.  These were the ones I put on to start 3131 after 12 years sitting.  end result 8 bent valves a fire ball and the impotus to do a wheels up rebuild.

I put these carbs on after the rebuild and had the high idle problem.

Pulled the carbs down to check them out and found all pilot jets blocked and a broken and mysteriously missing float post.

Trandsferred the internals of these carbs to my original and gummed up set and put those on.

extremely high revs still a problem.

Timing plate and govenor:

Checked to see which system I had.

It was the manual adjustment type.

Checked the TCI unit.

it was the 2H7- 01 type which matched the manual timing adjuster.

Adjusted the timing to the book spec.

Still ran rough.

put another TCI unit on and it started purring.

balanced the carbs using a carbitune.  This took about 1/2 hour to get the bike to idle and rev smoothly.

Re Checked the timing - all good.

The engine is now running and idling as it should.  not as smooth as the E model but pretty damn close.

Thanks to all the suggestions and guidance.

Eddy
