Excess you are a legend! 4 hours yesterday wasted trying to figure it out and only about 20 minutes today after you explained the dual filament front indicator. Went back to the 2 pin flasher can and it all works fine now!

Thanks heaps. Tomorrow the bike gets roadworthied!

Raf........the rear indicators were mounted in 2 different positions depending on what country the bike was made for .
Generally speaking......Oceanic countries , Canada and Germany mounted to rear tail light ...........
USA..........mounted on the rear part of the main frame......just to be different and a pita when trying to mount side bags......
You have nt mentioned if you have a wiring diag/service manual to work from , specific to your bike . If you don t , use the search function to locate one , as these are invaluable when fault finding and restoring.
Non of the flasher cans you have are standard. To have the self cancelling feature working you need the original unit. There are people on ebay........in particular a UK seller of aftermarket parts for the xs1100 (Yambits) who advertise and sell a flasher he claims is to suit..........in short.......it aint and don t .
I have taken up this issue with him after he sent me 3 ..he still continues to sell the same unit . I had to rewire the terminal block to suit the one he sent ....also with the result being it did nt  engage the self cancelling function he claimed it would .

Aha you're last part makes everything fall into place. I couldn't figure out why the blue wires were giving mixed results. So earth and chocolate and dark green wires all that's necessary then.
Also why does the wiring loom appear to have two different areas the rear indicators can connect too. On the rear light and under the seat.

To answer your question all 4 clubs come on and stay on. The relay was just a universal 3 pin I had in stock as I was ruling out all possibilities. The one that was on it was a 2 pin. Is that standard?

I can't read your reply from here (on phone) but will do so and answer any other questions:)

Raf............post a pic of the flasher can.....where did you get it from?
More info on what you say about indicators coming on ?
Do you mean they all flash together ?....or just one side ?
If you unplug the self cancelling relay........is the problem still there ?
The xs1100 E model had a double filament globe in both front indicators offering a "running/parking" light function when the headlight was turned on or the ign was switched to park. It may be this connection that is linking left and right indicators if wired/connected wrong.

Problems with indicator wiring
« Reply #1 on: March 11, 2014, 07:22:59 PM »
Had to start a new thread as the majority of wiring is sorted. Man the indicator loom is screwing me over.

The indicators come on and stay on when the headlight is turned on to park and high.

I have the 3 pin flasher relay in place.
I have the self canceling relay in place. Strange thing is there is 6 wires coming from the relay but only 5 in the connector to the loom. Is that normal?
Obviously the power is going through the system at the fuse for the indicators to be on.

Any ideas?
