The metho cleans the oil off and lubricates the grip as it goes on. It evaporates really quickly.

I can't say I tried that way. I went with the hot water. I could try that way maybe It will work but I think it is just really bad design. These have a metal sleeve over the rubber for about a 1/4 of the grip. I could get it on without the metal sleeve but it was just too damn tight with it. I tried several different ways such as the sleeve half way up the rubber grip (because pushing the grip on pushed the sleeve off the rubber grip) and also putting the metal sleeve on after but it seemed nothing was going to work. Even gave me a bloody blister  :-[
I figured this is why they were selling cheap on eBay  ;)

My standard method of putting grips on is to thoroughly wet bot surfaces with Methylated Spirits and slip them on. Sometime I have to build the area with electrical tape for a tight fit.

To remove them double a piece of wire closely and dip it in dish soap. Wriggle it between the bars or throttle tube and they will slip off easily

LOL wonder what is taking them so long  ::)

I picked up the throttle tube/ grip today $20 as they said. Stuffed around for ever trying to get the grips I had sitting around waiting but they are such a crap design all I ended up with was blisters. I will now look for another set of Grips  >:(

I know what you mean about sales sometimes Brett...........
I recently purchased some items from a dealership......the guy in spares was pumping up being able to source many parts for the xs1100 .
I asked him to get me an OEM exhaust system......two and a half months have gone by.........and still nothing ..no ph call no email.......nothing !!!
I m so pissed off . ;D ;)

You might be thinking the wrong throttle tube Christian ?

As I figured Yamaha never called me back. I called again then and after a lot of umming and arring I was told the XS only went up to 850, I assured him this was incorrect  ???
He finally found the model and with a lot more grunting about how deep into the system he would need to go to get the price he finally got there.
$20 and that is right side only grip and throttle tube.
Next little hurdle will be getting them to tell me it turned up and or finding it in the store when I go to get it. They are a funny bunch.

I found with my old CBX6 that Honda often have the bits I need and usually at a good price. Eg I bought brake caliper pistons for $20 each which was a pleasent to surprise. Often the bits are common to other models.

Looks like I might of been making that harder than it need be. Seems I can get it from Yamaha still and the price I was quoted was $20. part number is 2H7-26240-00.
Seems to me that is a right side grip and tube but I have the local store checking, that could be days before they get back to me, that is why I searched the info from another Yamaha store first. Parts guy is at lunch and will call me when he gets back, heard that before. I will need to call again this afternoon and no doubt it will stretch out till Monday before I get an answer that the other shop gave me in minutes LOL.

Thanks Eddie, Couple of things to get from that.
It seems they don't sell the throttle tube separate so listed under grips and that would have a lot to do with the higher price.
Also from these listings it seems they are universal with everything from the 250-1100 and even the xv and xj.

Mikes XS has the throttle tube for the 650 but states only the 400 as also compatible. Only $19 but then you have to add their $50 postage.
If the 650 is the same that will give me a lot more of a search area to find just the throttle tube.

Hesitant to spend extra on the grip that I don't need.

Thanks Scarfey, I could not find one that would suit, I gave them a call and they said they didn't have anything they knew of that would fit?

Search this site it's Australian and they sell universal throttle tubes. There are silhouettes to compare your exiting one to.

If I use XS1100 throttle sleeve or tube I don't get any results. Am I using the wrong search words or are they not selling at the moment? $50 seems pretty pricey as well when Honda ones are under $20. I see several second hand ones from America but would prefer new and they have postage around the $50 as well?
