" I'm selling my pride and joy, an XJ1100 Maxim which I have owned for 3 years.
The XJ1100 was essentially the american version of the Aussie XS1100 with slightly different styling to suit the US market. They were released as the 'Maxim' and came out with a different tank, cruiser style bars and a slightly raked out front end. These things were built to last at a time when the Japanese manufacturers were claiming market share from the US and Brit companies by building bikes thate were of superior quality with high quality components.
This is a very original XJ with only 29000km on it. How do I know the Ks are original? When it needed new tyres I went to a reputable motorcycle workshop nearby. I asked the old owner if he had any experience in this sort of old bike, and he gleefully told me that he'd done his apprenticeship working on them. So I was satisfied that he knew what he was talking about. When I went in to pick it up at the end of the day, he shook his head and said 'Do you realise that you still had the original factory front tyre?'
The bike comes with lots of great features, including crash bars, highway pegs, factory chain lock with storage compartment, and the most comfortable seat you'll ever sit on. It has the original factory 4-into-2 exhaust and the factory tool kit. The only thing that I have altered is to put in twin 120db air horns. Hey, I like cars to know I'm there. The tyres are about 80% and the bike is in outstanding condition overall with all of the chrome in great condition. There is a small ding in the right hand side exhaust about the size of a fifty cent piece. I suspect a previous owner bumped into something in his garage rather than the ding being the result of a fall, because the engine casings and crash bars don't show any signs of a spill on the road.
Since I've owned it, I have changed the oil and filter every 2000km, replaced the spark plugs, replaced the battery, replaced the air filter, changed the oil in the middle gear and final drive, put new rear brake pads on and bled the fluid. At some stage someone has resprayed it with airbrushed flames and a snarling wolf.
Two weeks ago I went on an 1100 km roadtrip from Canberra, to Gundagai, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Khancoban, Thredbo, Cooma, Bega, Bateman's Bay and back to Canberra and it was a joy to ride, never missed a beat. The seat is great, ride position is comfortable and it handles really well once it starts moving. It has a massive amount of stomp in any gear - look up its statistics and you'll see what I mean. Its torque figures are through the roof.
The bike is more than 30 years old so you could put it on club plates for about $100 per year.
If you're genuinely interested and put down a deposit, I'm happy to ride it to your door as far as Sydney or Melbourne. I'll catch the train home while you ride off into the sunset."
