The tiny hole in the gasket is lined up with the hole in the plastic square thing it fits over, question is, does this need to line up with the small hole which holds a round brass fitting? Best I can describe.

I've been riding Yamahas since 1976. Only other bike was a Honda CB900F 1978.
last bike ridden XS1100RH 83 1995 sold the bike to fund an O/S trip. Have a XS1100E for 12 yrs and ready to restore.

Ras...........Lumox has a standard model...........no fuel flowing from reserve and on position unless petcocks have vacuum operating .

Fuel will flow from both prime and reserve positions (at least on the special's) as they both feed off of the same side of the filter tower. A common mistake is to not know that the handle on the petcock points towards the word written on it. I myself made that mistake due to my previous rides having an arrow opposite the handle which pointed to the position.
Not to say that Lumox is doing it wrong at all. Just checking to see if that could be the problem. Personally I purposely switch them around (left to right and vice versa) as I prefer the way it feels when I am using the petcocks.
78E, 79SF currently running and road ready.
1 more in the wings patiently waiting with a big bore kit already installed.

your'e close lumox

the fuel should only flow in the  prime position   ok if you have diassembled said petcok  did you check  to see the position
of a tiny breather hole in the papery looking flat gasket with the flow seal  get the positioning of this wrong and it goes pear shaped
I've read a thread on the UK site

Prime should flow with no vacuum........reserve requires vacuum.

Have replaced all seals on the fuel petcocks.  Tank is still off the bike with 5 litres of fuel. Turn taps on, no fuel runs, turn to reserve fuel runs, turn to pri, no fuel runs. Have I got the cover plates mixed up? Or is the setup correct?

One set closer to finishing.
