these arrived today, front hub sorted, and tools to help progress the rear hub.
I'm not sure yet, but hopefully the blue spot calipers will clear the spokes

Yeah thought you might have done that, i tried to shape a parting tool once to remove a 150mm center from a 19mm plate that i was making a pump flange out of.
Failed!! just wanted to save the center piece cos i'm a tightarse!!!

Yeah Max, I used the lathe, with a 120 mm hole saw in the tail stock and running lathe at 60 rpm (slow as it goes) Took about an hour + of cutting time. Saw wasn't deep enough to go right through so had to turn billet around, re-true it and come in from both sides

Not wanting to waste good material as swarf on the shed floor I removed the bulk of material in one piece. Next is to get me a boring bar and remove the rest of the material out to the pencil line to fit over the hub

Man you sure ask a lot of questions :)
Standard rim sizes are readily available for the front. Last time i went for an 18" rear due to more tyre choices back in the day, and more room to lace up for the 15m offset in hub to rim centerline, still havent decided on rim size for the rear yet, and to be honest havent shopped around to see whats available but ill be sticking to standard 110 and 130 tyre widths front and rear respectively. Weight saving is minimal, the majority is in the hub and brake disc. Tyre spin on the rim wasnt a drama back then and there are more powerful bikes than these that dont have rim locks. Brake lines were store bought, venhill i think?

"Just liking them" IS a logical reason  ;D
Are spoked rims hard to come by to suit the tyre size for the front and rear ...of which is my next question. What size and profile tyres will you be selecting according to the spoked rims and rear swingarm restriction ?.
Do you recall what the weight difference was ? With the standard exhaust and the associated low down grunt is there the possibility of tyre spin on the rim ? With the enquirys re braided brake lines ....i see on your old bike you had these with the underslung rear caliper . Do you recall if they were store bought or custom made lines you had in the day ?

Does there have to be a logical reason for modifications besides the fact that i just like em?  :)
