Yeah 14mm mc is what yamaha matched their bluespot calipers to, I used a 14mm fireblade mc and lever on my bluespot setup and the feel and bite was primo,  so dunno where different sized mc recommendations are coming from

Don't hit the confirm button on the brake mc yet Jonesy. I was just looking at the brakes on the kids thumpster and the MC looks surprisingly similar  ::) Will see how it goes and let you know.

Mate thats an awesome price....$13 for a MC complete with lever.......thinking about getting one myself to put on the spares shelf
Time will tell with the quality.....the spade terminal wire connectors for the brake switch look the same as the R6 they're narrower than the ones you get down at the auto shop but I used them any way coz I couldnt find any skinny ones, just had to give em a little sqeeze with a pair of pliers to grab on
Brett I've been running bar end mirrors for over 20 years on several different bikes and havent broke one yet. rear vision on the TRX was improved compared to the fairing mounted jobs and I could still get it through a standard doorway into the shed

Will see how we go PG, I already have the bar end mirrors on and yes harder to fit through the side gate but otherwise I like them. I saw a mirror yesterday that looked like something of the space shuttle. Maybe later.
Your the only one that has recommended the 14mm front brake so do you think this one can work?

worse luck ;D bar-end mirrors are a nuisance they stick out too far in the wrong place,  they break soon enough,  also ratshit for seeing,  there's other  yammy mirror mounts off dirtbikes etc..  20mm wide there's a pic on this site of one, it clamped on with one bolt so needed to slide it on the bar,  sat between switch and brake, makes lever 20mm shorter,  don't notice it, with  R1 stuff only a easy touch to brake

Hi Jonesy, the rear mc bore seems good, it is the cap, reservoir and rubber seal that is shot and boot is missing. I haven't seen any good replacements for cap, reservoir and rubber seal. If they are available I am guessing they don't come cheap.
The only thing Café in this instance is I am considering a rear set in the future but don't think that has much influence on what I do now.
This would be a nice neat compact unit if it did the job and didn't fall apart for a good number of years. I can't get a confirmation of the bore size but seeing it advertised elsewhere there is a 13 in the part number (Model:  M13-1 ) so I think it must be.

I ended up going for a 14mm front brake, hoping this will work.

While I am at it I might as well show you what else I bought recently
My one quality buy was a Zeta clutch handle

A bargain at $21.50 deliverd I reckon.
Couldn't find a Zeta perch so I will hopefully pair it up with this cheap import perch. It can be hard finding a perch that has the cable exit parallel to the bars?

It's only a cheap set but better than what I have and I am hoping these hand grips come apart to suit the end bar mirrors?

Still looking for the right set of switches for the bars ?

Hey Brett,
Why are you replacing rear MC?
old one rooted or some radical repositioning for cafe concept bike?
For the front, have a look around for an R1 or R6 front MC, banjo bolt threads are same as XS original, so real easy replacement and will match the blue spot calipers. but you'll have to use a bar end mirror, no threaded hole in MC for mirror stalk. Check out the christmas in july thread, universal aftermarket fluid bottles are locally available

Thanks Guy's my main concern with original is price. Haven't seen one in decent condition yet but see the front ones go for a couple hundred. I am looking at a $35 import that is very compact just can never know until I try it I guess?

Easiest setup at rear is a stock mc,  won't be any other that'll fit without monkeying with the mounting and positioning,  stock mc is half inch, no point going bigger,  less feel and too grabby likely result, last thing you need is a skidding ass-end on a panic stop.  Back brake always a bastard to prime after bleeding,  trying to push dribs & drabs of fluid through by pumping the mc for hours is nonsense,  instead use a syringe and hose to pump fluid backwards through the caliper bleeder(loosened and thread-taped) till it squirts out the reservoir,  all primed and pressured within minutes that way

Rear MC bore size?
« Reply #1 on: September 16, 2013, 03:58:52 PM »
I still need to replace the MC's on the bike. I can't find what the original bore size for the rear MC is. Also are there any recommendations to slightly vary the bore size or what I might expect if I do. it seems if I went smaller it would be a softer feel. Any other considerations I need to consider with a non-standard MC apart from mounting to work freely?
