I gota say I liked the feel of that too. Sitting low. I reckon I will be chasing up some of the café racer seat foam and doing another. Will have to have a quiver of seats LOL
But this one feels great at the moment and I will finish it off with little change.

Maybe I'm stuck in another era?

I like the look of the 2nd front yard photo with the car in the corner

Thanks Max, I have had my eye on a couple of complete seats. Maybe another time.

After the scotch wore off this morning I figured most of the good ideas I had weren't going to work in the light of day. Bryans dismal looking seat base helped me decide mine still had enough life left in it. Wire wheel on the grinder then a coat of paint. I figured any rust repairs would just add weight and be a waste of time.

I was still undecided on the style of the seat but eventually I decided that since I had the foam that is meant for a plush seat and not cheap (even though I got it VERY cheap) I better make a plush seat with it. I did like the feeling of a low seat it seemed to take the pressure of my hands from the bars and become more with the bike. But I have found there is a more specialised foam for these café racer seats so maybe a future project.
First layer hard foam, at first I was thinking a very level seat.

Second layer medium foam

I took the bike for a ride after each layer. I found the pink layer worked great and then with the addition of the yellow layer I seemed to feel bumps even more ? ? But then the final memory foam layer and I had one very comfy ride. :)

In the end I liked the idea of a bit of a hump in the seat. I will now take it too a professional to be coverd. It still needs a little filler of memory foam on the left and I believe the seat could benefit from one more layer of material that stops the cover from slipping but I will have a chat with the upholsterer and see what he can do.

I finally got stuck into the seat and it has become a bit of a cross rd's I thought I was keen on a thick wide comfy seat. But now with the kick up the arse from an old car mate that also loves modifying and is now also into bikes. It has hit home that what I do here will be a huge influence on the style of the bike.
I always want something that is practical so the challenge is to make the seat as comfortable as possible but with a misses that refuses to pillion with me I have a lot of options.
After finding the "e' seat is a bit worse for ware I reckon I might as well use both my seats to make one good one and I might as well modify the base as well as the foam to try and get just what I want.

The three foam layers are hard medium in 50mm each and a memory foam at 30mm.
I was using a bit of tape to try out some graphics :)
