Actually Mad Bill in Germany made the design for this adapter plate

The filter mod is a cracker for sure....but only works with the oil cooler in place....
I have yet to work out an alternate fitting without the cooler.....
Xtian is the originator of this mod BTW

Soda blast is the way forward. Takes a bit but is easier than hand sanding. Also is water soluble so no chance of beads getting into bad places;) does leave a weird tarnish though so paint it after.

Bike looks great:)

The bikes pretty much together. I'm just looking for a suitable seat for the cafe look and waiting on spare blue spot calipers to pop up on gumtree/ebay to run r1 front brakes. Also, looking for a set of super sport bike rear sets as Im ditching the triangular stock xs1100 brake and clutch pedal assembly.

In mean time been playing around with another new project bike.

Just been looking back at your posts Nozi, I forgot this was your build. Any updates to report or you been hiding from the heat like me?
Will be great to see the bike together again :)

Thanks Paul, that would be great. I just got quoted $110 to get the engine soda blasted. Necessary you think? Or just a degrease and paint for do the job? At the end of the day, it isnt a show bike.

Hey Noz

for what it's worth my engine looked great when Mal had it painted by his mate Max, just take a look at my post of the restoration if you want to see his handiwork.  I think you'll be happier once its done.

Cheers

Thanks guys. Just removed the engine. Going to paint it - satin black VHT. Apparently that is closest match to factory, as someone posted.

Take it out and repaint,,

                                         BUT

Before you do that, get a couple of thin pieces of timber (fence Paling)  under  the engine to save more scratches,, and rags around the upright frame parts,,

might  save few scratches

Hey Noz,

Just my opinion.. Take the engine out again and paint it up.  I feel a crisp looking is the focal point.  A excellent example is Xtian's rebuilt H model....really striking with the engine looking brand new.

Good luck which ever way you go...

Eddy.

Well, I still cant decide if I want to paint it or not. So I thought I would put the engine in the bike and see how I like it.

FYI it took the best bet of 1hr to put the engine in the bike myself. And then I scratched the **** of of the frame trying to line up the bolts to mount the engine properly. Good thing is its paint and not power coat so I can just touch it up.

With the engine in, I can see which areas are exposed more to the eye and which areas I can focus less on - if I was to polish it or paint it.

Tell me what you think. Should I have had painted it prior to putting it in the frame?
