Thanks Eddy, the tank and seat are much appreciated.
Your opinion would be a reality Jonesy if someone got around to posting me the flatter bar. Just saying, :P Bahahaha!

Careful Brett Dusty is starting to look more like an XS11 every day.

Nice work BTW.

coming along nicely Brett, its a much better looking machine than the one you originally bought home.
Just my opinion, but some flatter bars and a bar end mirror would go nicely. that new zorst is gunna be alright too

Who said give up  :P I found that if I changed the orientation of the wires on the flasher it worked no problem. Now I have a nice new flasher unit that fits in the original spot. (better last forever at $32) I will have to see if I can get a plug that will fit this in the future.

The indicators are the cheapest I could find on eBay from Australia because I was tiring of waiting for the ones from China to show up. (first lot never showed so I got refund and re-ordered from another Chinese seller) They are pretty dull during the day. I might end up buying some better quality BRIGHT ones in the future.
Just in black for now. I reckon I would like to go shorter than this so now I am a little more confident I will try again with my original guard.

I reckon I like the rectangle headlight back but not sure of the best way to finish it off with the replacement speedo.

$32 on a purpose led flasher unit and the weak left indicator is better but still no flashing, seems that many have issues installing the led flashers. Now they tell me  ???
I will PM Scarfly to see if he has any advice as I know he has them fitted on his bike. there is resistors, smoothing condensors and all sorts of crap that is foreign to me.
Have to put this in the too hard basket for now and move on I fear this could be the opening of a can of worms for my electrical system.

I now have a little understanding how a flasher unit works and may have pinpointed some of the trouble. A flasher unit will flash when two bulbs of the correct wattage are connected, hence when one bulb goes out it no longer flashes.
I found this info after noticing that the wattage of the generic flasher I bought was 145W and the original is 27W.
Can't find anything concrete yet that this is the problem but seems very likely?
I think the right indicator will then have to come down to simply the wrong wire?

Oh here we go,
Quote
Flasher units do not only have to correspond to the voltage of the electrical system, but  also need to correspond to the powerconsumtion (wattage) of the flasher bulbs to work correctly.

If you use LED flasher you might even have to install additional resistors to get a wattage that makes the flasher units work. Please consult the manual of your LED flasher producer.

Oh going over the wiring diagram it seems the front indicators had park lights in them as well, is this correct?

Cheers that is great info, The simpler I can make the system to check the better. The bugger of a thing with this is that unless it is all working properly I get no flashing so I find it hard to isolate the issue. One indicator won't shut off and the other is very weak. Bloody got me buggerd.
I had given up on the indicators at one stage and then I was pulling my hair out when I was trying to wire up the LED stop light. Since the cheap arse item came with no instruction I figured either could be earth but used the black wire. Finally to work out they only work one way and offcourse I had hooked it up the wrong way.
Since you asked, I am great today, but yesterday sucked as I had a shocker of a 24 hr bug and had to waste a perfect sunny day (that I could have been working on the bike) watching movies in-between trying to sleep it off.  Haha first Bug of the Winter so can't complain too much  ;D

Hey Brett,
Hows it goin'
Nice work on the guard too
as for the blinker thing that little black box next to the top left corner of the battery is tied in with the self canselling blinkers and can be removed without compromising the electrics. I once had a problem where the blinkers would only flash once and stop. After removing it all was good and I only had to cansel the blinkers manually like 99% of other bike do. Not saying its the problem with yours but you can remove or un plug it just to rule it out as a suspect

Been a slow process lately.
I finished the guard off with Bog. As you can see there was more to fill from the rust and holes than the join.

I also recently came across the rules for how much is allowed to be removed.
Click RTA
The back tyre needs to only be covered from above, ie as long as the guard extends to a vertical line from the very outside of the tyre. So I could have removed a fair bit more.
The guard is painted and back on the bike. I have also been re-fitting the Acwell speedo the rectangular headlight and LED indicators.
The new indicators have now become a real pain in the arse. At first I thought all my trouble was a faulty flasher unit as it had played up before and I haven't had any indicators since Bourke. Grabbed a new 12V twin plug generic one today and still can't work out what is wrong.
The right side is now staying on permanently with no flashing even when the indicator is turned off, yes sounds like I have the wrong wire but I was sure that one was turning on and off before. Only with both or all indicators working will they flash I have found in the past. I always figured that was a way to tell you that a bulb was out??
The left side comes on and off with the indicator switch but will not flash and is very weak?????
Buggerd if I know the only thing I can see to do from here is work my way back to the indicator switch double checking everything till I find what is wrong. AAAAAAArrrrrrgggggg I hate electrics?????
