Front End Grind

Had a particularly enjoyable ride home from work the other night. Work - home 59 klms in 30 minutes. Combination of cool night air and a completely deserted stretch of road in the wee hours = maximum enjoyment.
Pulled up outside, switched off and opened the garage door. I went to wheel the bike inside and heard a really bad grinding noise coming from the front of the bike. Hadn't heard anything while on the road, but in the dead silence, it was quite disturbing.
Got around to investigating the cause today. jacked up the front end and rotated wheel. Graunching sound was coming from the LHS brake. dropped the calipers off and checked the pads and found this -

^ pad on LHS had a big burr on it (about 1mm high) and is chunked in the top RHS corner. (pic was taken after cleaning up)

^ Checked back on the bike and that particular spot is clear of the holes in the disc.

^ I thought it interesting that this occurred on the trailing end of the pad.
Cleaned up the burr with a file and gave them a scrape on the concrete for good measure.
Just for peace of mind, though, I reinstalled my used set of Brembo metallic pads just to be sure. I'll keep this set as spares, I think.
For the record, these were SBS sintered pads that have been on the bike for 2 1/2 years now and have worked flawlessly in that time.
Anyone else had issues with this brand?
