These are brand new. In Silver. Same as these:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-XS1100-Fuel-Tank-Emblem-Badge-GET-2-NOS-NEW-OEM-SET-SILVER-CHROME-/400359300146?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d37461c32&_uhb=1#ht_551wt_1139

I can get them to you for $20 posted.

They come off golf carts. You warm them with a hair dryer to put a curve in them.

They are pretty cheap in bulk, but shipping from the USA kills. I grabbed a few sets when I got mine.

This bike has me by the short and curlies. I could not wait to have the problem solved and forked out a whopping $60 for a helicoil set. Now if I ever strip a 8 x 1.25mm bolt again I will be ready  :-X Or I will charge $5 a repair till I get my money back  ;D

Thanks Makzy, we don't have any good automotive stores here so I guess I should be lucky I found one even though I had to pay top dollar. The thread was shot but it is now stronger than ever. Thanks for all your great advice  8)

I will be looking forward to checking out a few things on your Bike Bryan. The exhaust is now added to the list  ;)

I think I know what you mean now Jonesy but the local tool store had just one of the correct helicoil and now I am back on the road Speedo and polished muffler  8)
Got a new headlight ready to go on but what about the seat  ::)

Good automotive suppliers will have all you need, if you need a stud and no one near you has a spare let me know and i will send you one, have a good look at the thread in the head, it might not be too bad, clean it up with a good thread tap and if it cleans up ok just use some devcon on the stud and smear a bit in the head, screw the stud in firm, not too tight, leave it for 24 hrs and see how you go, if it strips out then you will have to do the helicoil trick. do you know how to use the double nut method for removing and replacing studs?

you could use an 8 X something mm hex head bolt cut to length to get you out of trouble
dunno if its just me...but some of your photos are just little red crosses, what happened to the muffler?

Thanks Makzy, I think I am looking forward to making my own set one day  ???

I will look into the roof and gutter silicone. I was starting to think helicoil and was just searching for a kit. Any idea what the thread and bolt size is. Must be 8mm I think but what thread am I looking for?

Bretts you done well, i actually had to build a complete muffler and collector(4 into 1) as well as patch the pipes in a couple of places, as far as sealing joints go, roof and gutter silicone, it's neutral cure and won't burn till about 400 degrees, have used it for years on speedway cars, road cars and bikes, works a treat, helicoil for the striped thread mate, it's easy, you'l see. cheers.

Think I got it Paul  ;) As I do this for a living I have to have a little faith in my skills  :-X
Oxy may be the best for this Jonesy, I have only used them at TAFE for welding and cutting at work. So how well it would work in a rusty repair like this I don't know. We were never taught to use the mig like this at TAFE  :P
At about 50c a day for a gas bottle just for rent bugger having three at home, I am not happy as I used to get them rent free.

All ground up, I cleaned up some of the old welds as well.

I know it was silly but out of habit I could not resist a coat of cold gal primer, it should burn off in no time  ::)

I even polished up the muffler, but then disaster has struck  :o

I swear it was not my fault, what is the usual repair for this these days. A larger thread and tap? or one of the fancy glues?
