Ooops sorry about the size of pics... Although if there was a hairline crack in the frame someone here would probably be able to pick it up lol

Errol that's an invasion of privacy... Anyway how did you get my bikes in your garage lol. More importantly why am I still farting around trying to load pics through bikepics.com! Thanks for the welcome. I will get more details on engine mods and load pics shortly!? I believe it was all 'go fast' mods rather then something blowing up..

Hi Raf, and welcome to the clan. Glad you finally made it through the initiation procedure and got logged on. (I'm sure the fiddly registration process is due to anti spam software to try and weed out the folks who want to fill your computer with junk)

Brisbane, eh? Do your bikes happen to look a bit like this?

If so, congrats on the purchase and we'd love to see some more photos of the pair.
Some further details of the mechanical make-up of the pair would be good to help us steer you in (hopefully) the right direction.
Also would be interested in why the bike has had work done on the motor, unless the previous owner was just a genuine petrol-head

G,day Raf
welcome in mate
Which one to restore and which to cut n shut ay.......
Just my opinion restore the 79 standard and cut n shut the 80......its already been tampered with by fitting one of them little RH tanks.(that should stir up the natives)
your next challenge is to get some pics up for us

Wow. I think it's harder to join this forum then it is to join the royal family! I certainly feel like I'm in better company. Due to having to register with a gmail account (stupid spam folder) and being at my bike building shed with only an iPhone for company I've struggled for 2 hours to join this rag tag bunch of mistruants! A whole world of thanks to Xtian for sending some info I needed.

Now enough about me... Lets talk about ... ME! Lol
My name is Raf and I've recently had the pleasure of acquiring 2 XS1100's. ones a 1979 and the other is a 1980 model. As a fit and eager 18 year old many years ago I was tossing up between the xs or the gs1100g. Due to handling and the general consent that I wouldn't live very long on an XS I purchased and completely restored a GS.  Even now I have more fond memories of that bike then any other of the 40+ bikes I've owned. Having said that I wondered how different my life would be if I had an XS..? So now in my mid thirties I finally got a couple.

One of the main reasons I joined this forum (besides the logo) was to get members opinions on what bike to do up. Due to being a bike mechanic at a cafe racer shop I'm likely to 'cut and shut' one of these ummmm fine specimens but the other I want to restore to original. The later model has the RH TANK. Both have matching numbers although one shows only 15000kms on the clock and apparently has had a fair bit done to the motor/carbs.
