Hi Paul
Welcome aboard from another Paul in Adelaide, it's good to see the numbers growing.  I've had my 78 model xs for almost 34yrs.
Cheers

Hi Paul and welcome aboard. Canungra, eh? That brings back memories. Did you stop there, or go all the way up to O'Rielly's? That's one of my favourite stretches of road. Not high speed stuff, but real tight'n twisty. Love the way my XS punches out of the bends without having to row up & down the gearbox all the time.
Speaking of gearboxes, when you fixed it in the past, did you replace the gears with the worn dogs, or Dremelled and undercut  the dogs of the existing gears. Have you heard about the 2nd gear washer swap which ends up giving those dogs an extra 1mm of engagement, which should help them last longer.
If not, just do a search on "second gear washer swap" and there should be plenty of information to help you through the fix.
What model XS have you got, mate?

Hello everyone,
New to the site, been an XS1100 owner for over twenty years, was my primary transport for a couple of years, but now a great bike for going cruising on a weekend , Love going cruising over Mount Tamborine and out to Canungra and back. Great reliable bike, sat in the garage for two years then change to a new battery started on the eleventh turn!
Seen some other classics but no XS1100 these days, did a toy run in the Whitsundays a little way back, they all had Harleys a couple of new bikes but nothing classic..
I have rebuilt the gearbox three times and needs doing again, yes second gear, any suggestions on how to stop this issue, will be great?
Keep on riding
Regards
Paul
