Tim, swapping the clocks over sounds easy as the wiring is basically the same, the mounting bracket fits straight on to either type of upper clamp. The problem is that the wiring connectors are different, which would require either somehow pulling all the contacts out of them and fitting them into connectors that match the main harness (difficult, if not impossible to do without breaking something) or making up an adapter loom to group the wires correctly. I'm still running the square clocks on my Special for exactly this reason, as I changed the harness years ago to get around some P.O. butchery in the headlight shell.

Hi Tim. I've taken the liberty of posting up the photos of your rig on your introductory thread for all to see.
Here's one just to help out here -

Now you've established what rig we're talking about, can you give us the first three numbers / digits of the frame and engine numbers to verify exactly what's what, as there have been a lot of instances of mix'n match bikes turning up lately.

Looks to be a very well sorted rig in all respects. Looks to be a G or H model fitted with a Shoei police style fairing from the era, hence the round headlight. Interestingly, it has a set of round RH gauges on it so the question still remains.

Looks to be a very nice unit you've scored there.

Aw, turn it up, Jonesey! I just read a lot. Keep that up and I'll have to get a bigger helmet, and I already use an XL size.
Yes, that is a pic of Tony's old bike. I'm still just guessing but the geography is right.

Edit: Good onya Jonesey! I just realised from Tims introductory thread that his bikes got a chair hanging off it, so it looks like I'm wrong on this one.

Hi Tim. Don't worry about the sacreligious bit, mate. What ever makes you more comfortable on your bike, and it's safer too.
You've got my curiousity going now with this statement:
Quote
gone from a round oem to a modified hilux rectangular
I take it the bike had a round headlight on it, but later you talk of the hinged rear guard with the black box on it.

The only XS's that came with a round headlight were the Specials (not marketed here so very thin on the ground) and the RH sport which had an 8" light tucked in the front fairing.
But......... none of the Specials have a hinged guard................ and the RH's have the black box mounted on the plastic inner guard. in front of the hinged steel guard.
Just a guess, but would your bike look like this one???

If so, it wasn't the original light in the first place, so don't stress about it. You've actually made it more original looking

hi all .I had the xs for nearly 2 weeks  tweaking and tuning  but I  found the trusty h4  with its 8.5 candle light power just didn t  cut it
so  ive modded the  ead light , I know im a new comer to the clan and some may see this mod as sacrolige  , ive created a   yammalux   , gone from a round oem to a modified hilux rectangular  illuminator, the eyes have changed but the heart is still there lol

on another note  had the rear tyre and disc  off the other day  after mucking round and  jacking the bike up and down the get the rim out , i was looking through a  random post on the uk site     now ide noticed a hinge on the back guard assembly forward of the black boxes ,but I did'nt comprend what i was looking at  , any way while reading  a random post  i was shown a picture  of this hinged rear guard  in the opened position , with the comment  the  manufacures  thought  of this  to help removal of the rear tyre a lot faster due the the weight and cramped area near the final drive hub
oh i have so much to learn   :o
ps ide be interested in a chat with any side car gurus some time
till next time
