There are many options...home made blasters....store bought units..or have someone else do it for you.
Here s an option from Karcher..if you have a pressure spray unit.........

Hi Fellas,
I'm after a bit of advice about getting rid of unwanted black paint.  I've never done it before but at the moment my engine and lower forks are painted black and have lots of patches of bare metal showing through.  I wanted to take it all off and just leave the bare metal.  Firstly, can anyone advise me of the best way to do this at home?  (Paint stripper?  Wet and dry?  Steel wool?  Paint scraper?  Elbow grease?  All of the above?)

Secondly, if I can get rid of the paint, is there some sort of finish that I need to put on the metal to stop it from rusting?

Any advice appreciated!

My best T shirt (gift from the payer of half the bills) has, 'I like to get drunk and bid on Ebay' as I haven't been on their site for a while, I checked and the search came up empty for T shirts with that logo, a while back.

What were we thinking?

My mate and I did an oil change on his 2010 Honda Shadow last Saturday and then we sat around drinking beer, as required by the man code of behaviour.  We got to chatting about how it was going to be a bit sad not to have anything to do in the shed for a while, seeing as our bikes were in such awesome nick.  Then we had a few more tinnies and started talking about how a project bike would be really cool, then we had a few more tinnies and it became an even better idea.  Then we had a few more tinnies whilst looking on ebay.  Then I remember saying something like, 'Let's put in a bid, we'll never get it.....'  Then I remember waking up with a raging hangover and a lovely email saying that I was the successful bidder for a 1981 XJ750......

I'm a man of my word, and there was no way I was going to be one of those Ebay pikers who win a bid then don't pay for some reason....so it was off to Nowra to pick up the purchase.  http://flic.kr/p/dRhPW4,
It was raining so I didn't have a chance to go over the bike at the guy's house.  I just paid the money and ran.

Finally got it home and off the trailer and had a chance to check it out.
It looked OK from a distance....http://flic.kr/p/dRhPvt     http://flic.kr/p/dRhQfK

But then up close, there were a few worries......
Wiring was a mess.
http://flic.kr/p/dRhQLt
Shouldn't there be a fuse box somewhere?
http://flic.kr/p/dRon5h
Surface rust, plenty of it....
http://flic.kr/p/dRhPde
http://flic.kr/p/dRooLd

Still, I guess that's what you'd expect from a drunken purchase.  We only paid $600 for it, so I figure we're going to have a crack at doing some restoration work as a way of improving our mechanical skills.  If we screw it up, well, that's really only $300 each down the drain, which could well be worth it in terms of the experience of pulling things apart and seeing if we can put it together again.

Anyway, I won't bang on, just thought I'd share even though this probably belongs on a forum on a different site.  But if there is anyone out there who would be prepared to offer a bit of advice from time to time when we get stuck, I'd really appreciate a PM!

As for  all the oils,,,, and the forks,,if nothing else mate, undo the drain screws and drop whats in there and replace,, depending what oil your  using and the price of it,, { depending on the colour and such of the initial drop},, maybe drop it again after your hill spin, then you,ll now every thing is fresh,,

From Wikipedia

A fang is a long, pointed tooth. In mammals, a fang is a canine tooth, used for biting and tearing flesh. In snakes, it is a venom-injecting tooth (see snake venom). Spiders also have fangs........

But..................here in or-stralia it's a brisk conveyance on a popular and well maintained steed, usually petrol powered.

In other words go out and flog the arse of your pride and joy without getting a fast riding certificate from the local constabulary.

BTW have you tried our special anti Kangaroo whistle that you can fit to the front of your bike.....They work really well in Canada, my mate over there hasn't hit one Roo since he put his on.

taking her for a fang in the hills rather than pottering around the shed

I'll pay that. Always a fang overrides a day in the workshop - unless compulsory!

Reckon you'll be right for the Bourke trip in May?

*lol* Nah, they're pretty loose.  Man that old stuff stunk, though.  I have this great feeling that I've now changed most of the consumable stuff on the whole bike:  oil, oil filter, air filter, brake pads, brake fluid and now diff oil.  I guess I could do fork oil but everything seems to be working just fine so I'm going to spend some time taking her for a fang in the hills rather than pottering around the shed.

Possible future purchases for when the budget allows:  Touring screen, soft panniers, braided brake lines, upgraded shocks, upgraded exhaust.
