tick tock tick tock may is looming close mate.......

@ Brett
mate have you done the fork oil yet?....if not, some nice new fresh stuff might soften the ride a little more.

Yep did fresh fork oil a while back. In the future I think I will try a valve and new springs in the front.
Mucked around with the pre-load today. Think I over did it at about 2/3 it felt a little hard. Pulled it back a bit and left rebound as was at about 20%. Seems good. Feel I am confident to really lean in the corners around town at the moment and it seems to take the bumps on the high way well. It seems much of the vibration at high speed it gone. I think I went the fastest yet today at 6000 revs  :P Gota get a speedo  :-X

Very true Duc, no argument from me on that one, I'm just taking it slow, keeping the fluids up but progress is being made.

Cheers

Ha ha, trust me I'm well aware of the time factor, providing there is no hiccup with the engine I should be riding again before the end of March.  I'm working on it each day, so here's hoping it all goes to plan.  :)

Cheers

I come home to find these had arrived  :D

After taking the picture I had Oh bugger moment when I noticed the bottom sleeves were different. I decided to pull the others off my bike to have a look and found that was normal as they mount different left to right but my bike had two left springs with a 10mm bolt going into a 13 or 14 mm hole.
Phew the new ones will fit just right. Then I thought I was half way there and might as well fit them. Next I had another panic attack when the bike dropped right down with the new shocks and seemed to have bugger all travel  :o
I eventually decided I better try adjusting the pre-load before I sent them back.
Hmm that seemed to work. I pre-loaded them around 50% set rebound at about 33% Went for a ride and oh that is much smoother. I think the pre-load and rebound could go up a little more as it seemed just a little loose but just on that short ride the seat now feels like it has plenty of padding  :)
I will take for a longer ride tomorrow.

Hi Guys

I recently purchased a set of IKON shocks, I chose model 17610-1407 as they matched the old Koni's I used to have years ago and I like the black look, even though I have an original 78E model.

They cost $465.00 delivered from Albury to Adelaide and they arrived in 24hrs almost to the minute, I was very impressed!!

I collected my frame and associated pieces from the blaster/painter today and the re-build process can now commence.
Hooray  ;D

Bourke here I come!!!

Cheers
Paul

Actually, they're not too bad. After Phil (EXS1.1) got a pair to put on the back of his beauty, I was compelled to try a set. For thet price, it was worth a try. (Click to view that discussion)
Despite the seller (Keith) not actually having a pair listed for an XS11, and stating his concern over the weight being dealt with in this case,I got a pair to fit a GSX11, which are a bit lighter. The finish was good. I opted for the ones with the full top sheath compared to Phil's open ones.
Honest opinion? They performed ok when the bike was naked. When I refitted the rack, panniers, and topbox and towbar and filled them up, the spring rate just wasn't up to the task so that was when I went searching for somethinmg more suitable for my needs at the time.
But, to be fair, I was warned about the spring rate, and they did perform pretty well before I added a sh@itload of extra weight to the back end of the bike

As far as getting a set to put on an XS1100 that is not carrying a heap of extra weight over normal rider (no pillion), and the bike isn't getting raced through the backroads, or trackdays etc, they're a very (price concious) option as compared to the over $500 sets that have been recently discussed on this forum

Yeah $70 is dirt cheap, but for someone on a budget who might only get the bike out on 2 sunny Sundays a year. they could be just the ticket

Good link Adrian
I scrolled down to the bottom 1/2 of the ebay page and he has "Yamaha shocks" that look similar to OEM. probly need to discuss with him bushes and lengths etc but for the price, and  a no questions asked 12 month warranty you cant go wrong. And in Australia as well
