Are these the same for the RH as they are the standards. I doubt it eh?

Mal had some delay's in getting these out as the first prototype needed some modification. He has been nice enough to offer me a set hot off the press and say's that more will bew about another week away.
Here is a bit of added info From Mal for your enjoyment while waiting for a set of this complete bolt on kit.

Hello Brett,

I wanted to give you a bit of info on the brake plates so that you can understand how they have been made.

1.        There are two round shim spacers, 3mm thick that you fit behind each front disc to give sufficient clearance for the calliper ( inside ) and the spokes of the wheel. The disc mount bolts are long enough to cope with this shim.

2.       The brake plates are supplied with two bolts, washers and lock nuts. The washers go under the bolt head on the outside of the plate, and the nut on the inside of the fork leg.

3.       The brake plates have different depth recesses on each side, and this is to suit standard wheels and forks as they come from the factory. I checked fitting of these plates on Christian’s bike as well as Brian Cooper’s, and they both had similar side clearances. The machined surfaces  ( inside )go to the calliper mount points.

4.       It is important before fitting the callipers, to loosen the  L/H clamp bolts, as well as mudguard and fork brace ( if fitted ) and bounce the forks up and down to make sure the L/H fork is in it’s neutral position on the axle. If it is then you can tighten the under clamp bolts, followed by mudguard bolts and fork brace and then fit the callipers

5.       When you have fitted the plates with your blue spot callipers, check to see what clearance you have between each side of the disc and the inner calliper housing. The aim is to have same clearance on each side of the disc, checked with a feeler gauge.

6.       The reason for being critical about disc side clearance, is that there is only about 1mm clearance on each side of the disc to the calliper housing. The disc thickness on the original R1 using these callipers was around 5mm, while the XS1100 is 7mm, so fitting is tight.

7.       Also the original master cylinder size on the R1 was 16mm. The standard XS1100 master cylinder is 11/16” ( 17.46mm ), so this means when using the standard XS1100 master cylinder, the lever is hard with not much brake feel. Paul Farnan ( who has also placed an order for these brake plates ) has ordered  replacement 16mm master cylinders from Mike’s XS in the USA, so this should improve braking efficiency and give a much better feel.

Regards,

Mal.

Got an Email from Mal
Hello Brett,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on the brake plates, but the cutting people have been very busy, and these plates were too thick to be laser cut, so water jet cutting was the final solution.

I have now received the first set of brake mount parts.

Brian Cooper is allowing me to do a dummy fit to his bike to make sure all fits okay.

Hopefully this will happen on Tuesday or Wednesday next week, and then I will get production going.

I will be able to advise a price per set then.

Cutting delay is now about one week from my order, so hopefully a week and a couple of days should see them arrive.

Regards,
Mal.

Getting closer  :D

Hey Rev,

The recommendation I had from 'Snake" in SA (he provided me with the pair of mounting brackets to copy in NSW) was to have a couple of the spacers at 1mm and couple at 2mm thickness.  When you do the set up and measurements the clearance will dictate the spacer thickness.  You then put the appropriate thickness spacer in.

Hope this helps

Does anyone know what the spacer size needs to be?  And we will need one on each side, correct?

And on another note.  Does anybody have problems with the damn verification letter box?.  I am color blind and those things a virtually impossible to figure out

Got an email from Mal Pittman just a couple days ago. He is just about to get the first set from the lazer cutters. Will fit that before ordering multiple numbers ready to distribute.

I would be very interested.  Perhaps a scale drawing would be good, that way we can make our own.  Thanks

Yes, I like the sound of this mod, please keep me posted on the costs. Always handy to have the brackets prefabbed.

Hi folks,

Just got back from Adelaide where I caught up with Kim (AKA Snake) .  He gave me a set of brackets which allow you to bolt on the Bluespot front calipers.  For anyone interested in doing this mod   I am currently investigating getting these fabricated.   I' ve done a dummy fit and they are great.  I will also look at getting the spacers for the disc made up.
