I suppose it's better late than ever.
Just found this on the dotcom site

Quote
here's the formula for Macho Maroon. Your local paint shop should be able to
decipher all the numbers and what they mean. It. actually is a 3 part paint.
with a base, mid, and clear coat. good luck!! All mixtures are for pints
BASE COAT DDL 51197

MIXTURE FOR BASE COAT
DMA 362 425
DMA 358 470
DMA 310 498

MID COAT DDL 51198

MIXTURE FOR MIDCOAT
DMA312 1
DMA358 43
DMA307 74
DMA360 358
DMA362 438
DMA363 479
DMA310 503
These are all for lacquer and a clearcoat on top.

and from Chris Rawson a few years ago
For all those looking for a paint code to use
I had my tank colour scanned at the local PPG store, this is what they
came up with for a basecoat/clearcoat mix.

Colour name is Amaranto

Quantities are for 1 (US) pint

Code-------Colour------Cumulative------Parts
DMD670 Quindo V 119.2 119.2
DMD647 Strong B 183.2 64.0
DMD622 Red Oxide 254.6 71.4
DBX1689 Basecoat 509.2 254.6

Tis all gobbledegook to me but a good paintshop should be able to sort out the codes

According to much research..........there were no colour codes around when these bikes were made........
You ll have to find a NOS part in the colour you want and have it colour matched.
Here s a link that relates to paint .........

Does any one out there know the colour code for the 1978E Macho Maroon paint?
I've been riding Yamahas since 1976. Only other bike was a Honda CB900F 1978.
last bike ridden XS1100RH 83 1995 sold the bike to fund an O/S trip. Have a XS1100E for 12 yrs and ready to restore.
