And just to help confuse things more, have a look at the rear subframe on my Special.

Doesn't help much though as my sidecovers have the slotted mounts like the Standards. Also, the 79 SF Special is the only one that an RH seat will fit on. Also still doesn't explain the 2H9 on the headstem which we all know designates a 78E, not a Special either in any shape or form.

Version 1 of any product is never very spectacular. Once they'd filed off all the square edges and ugly corners they realised their early mistakes.

Result? Timeless masterpiece ....

Please bring bibs to the rally. You'll be drooling at the sight of an RH in the flesh.

Gotta agree Bryan, All things in life are measured against a "standard" anyway,  I think the word benchmark also applies  :P

"planning on taking it back to original"
you could be disappointed that you don't have a standard as they are a much better
looking machine.

Maybe those holes are part of the rack fixings.
What we need is a range of more detailed pics of the bike .
One of the comliance plate on the headstem , one of the frame with the seat removed etc......
I m sure the new owner can accomodate us with this...... to further help.
Also a pic of the new owners next to their newly aquired bike would be great as well!!!
I m sure they will be along soon and will be only too happy.... to help us........ to help them out........ as they seem very eager owners.
I wonder from what part of Sydney or other parts are they from........as maybe someone could duck around to help them out.

The frame is confusing me???????

The back end of the frame looks the same as the standards, has those big holes to mount indicators just in front of the mudguard mount.

The RH frame does not have those indicator mounts. Well mine don't anyways.

The side cover mounts are confusing me as well.  RH/Special side covers on a standard frame.  WTF??????

Could this be a US import?

Sorry, Jeff. You posted while I was Typing. Actually, I stuffed it up a bit so I had to edit to correct a Typo so maybe worth a re-read for it to make sense.
