Linux would be good if it worked for anyone who can't write 10 pages of script to install an app. It's like Apple "you do as I say"
I am always happy to try anything new but every time I try Linux something does not work

guys,

I don't get it :-[
Windows 7? what happened to 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 huh?
A little sticker on my laptop (very inovative this stylish rolladesk) tells me I have XP. I don't even know what that means but it works for me (most times) and while it does it can live here with me ::)
It ain't broke etc.

Yeah, upgrading Operating systems has always been a no,no. Always best with a clean fresh install.

As Christian says Windows 7 is well worth it. Very reliable and for once it does what is says on the box.

Can't upgrade to Windows 7 people. It is a clean install BUT well worth the move.
Best way to do it is get another hard drive (really cheap if you know the right person  ;D ;D)
Install 7 onto the new drive with the old drive out of circuit then re-install all your stuff

It will surprise you how good it is

I had a moment of insanity....why not upgrade from XP- Windows 7....hmmm sounds easy, lets try it!!!
Well start with the lap top as it is vista, thing go very smoothly....piece of cake no problems....lets try XP now..... first mistake, there is no way to "upgrade" from XP without wiping it of the system. Sure they tell you to download a program from microsoft that will "save all your data and convert it to something that 7 will understand"....that sort of happened. "Widows 7 will now install new operating system and your old XP will be deleted"... that did not happen. 4 hours to save old data to a portable hard drive,2 hours to load windows 7 and 2 hours to download old data back in. Now I seem to have 2 operating systems, alot of my hard drive used up and a lot of data that can't be opened :-[  :-\  Not to mention that every program that used XP needs new drivers downloaded or is incompatible  :'(  Time for some medication...... glug glug glug...... nope the "computer fairies" never came  :-\  this is one of those times I guess that I should have A. Left it alone. As a wise person told me from a long distance "don't fix what ain't broke"  Damn I can't through anything that far  >:(   B. Just wiped the computer and plead ignorance as to "what happened to all my cat photo's" (she who must be obeyed has thousands of them)
C. Taken the computer to some one who knows more than I do. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing  ;D Morale of story, see A.
