So does that guy live in a 48 hour day, Lou?
Yes, one turn is one 360 degree rotation of the screw.
Oh, just thought of something. Maybe he's never seen an analogue clock? Just digital

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I count 1 turn it's 360 deg/ 12 o'clock to 12 o'clock.

Just clarify something for me as I was talking to a guy today and his thoughts on two turns out on the air screw are e.g. 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock is 1 turn, 6 o'clock around to twelve is 2 turns, I always thought it was 12 o'clock to 12 o'clock was 1 turn?

Which one?

Cheers

something else to check is the float chamber vents, more so if its been sitting for a while , had a multi carb bike kept flooding one carb and had me stumped 'till I checked the vents.
hope you have it running for the VJ meet, might see you there if you make it.
anyone else from Sydney heading down this year?

Hey Steptoe,
Thanks for asking, I haven't done a thing to it, as the seat O rings arrive tomorrow (Monday), although I won't get a chance to do anything till Wednesday or Thursday night, so while the carbs are off for the O ring replacement, I'm going to take off the airbox so if there is another leak after that I can identify which one it is, then go through the balance process again?

I'll let you know how I go?

Cheers

how'd you go sorting the old girl Lou?  did you get it running right again,
about all you can do is turn the idle up,{not heaps} just so it will run,,, throw the gauges on and start again, the motor gaining revs is something that happens as you get the 4 carbs closer to running as 1, you can turn the idle down a bit at a time as it climbs if you like, I don't let mine rev to high whilst syncing 1000rpm at the most

No I didn't leave them in PRIME all night, I did the initial sync with the carbs just on ON, they started reving high, thats when I switched to PRIME, when I did put the tank back in the normal position the low fuel light came on, so it may have been running out of fuel when the revs all of a sudden started sitting at about 4 grand, as for the carby leak, last time I checked I had one leak and I put a new needle and seat in it and that fixed that one, I must admit my first effort at the carbs when I first go the bike a couple of years ago the rubber O rings I replaced with ones that I just had in my universal kit, so I might see if the rubber O rings alone are available I need to get this ready for the Vintage Jap meeting at Warilla in a couple of weeks, infact I'm taking three bikes to it :D
Cheers

Hey Lou
Did you leave the bike on prime overnight?
If so....
You might be able to get away with fixing the leaking float jet later down the track. Thats if you have no problems in the usual on position.

For now you might be able to dry the air box and filter out and tune as Pete suggested

hey lou,
your going to have to fix the leaking carb first before
u do any other work, the leaking carb will make that cylinder
run rich when running.

check the needle and seat
are sealing, our carbs have also an รณ'ring around the seat
which can leak fuel from there.

as far as the sync, have the guages connected
sync 1 and 2
sync 3 and 4
then sync left bank to right bank.

hope that helps,
u need any other info
let me know.

Carby Sync Issues.

Tried doing the Carbs the other night, sort of read the procedure, but I guess I must have fluked it as it was the only time I've had the bike that I could start it without touching the throttle, took it for a ride and I was surprised as to how much smoother the bike was, so later I re-read the instructions and realise that I just did #1&2 then the middle;e then #3&4 so I thought I could get it running even better so I started playing, the revs varied as I turned the idol up quite alot, the instructions also say to put your fuel taps in PRI well the bike started to leak fuel from the airbox.

Next morning the bike wouldn't start and when it finally did it ran like a dog. I noticed that in the procedure it says NOTE Carb #3 cannot be adjusted, all other carbs must be synced to it.

So I need to ask , how do I get back to the starting point of even getting the bike idling, even roughly so I can attempt a re sync????
