If a 250 yz can withstand a supercross race it will handle a pothole or two, and look closely at that picture i did use the mid shaft but in a way ive never seen anywhere else

well, long skinny alloy dirtbike swingarm on an XS1100, I wouldn't, a 250 dirtbike is a fraction of the XS11's weight and bulk, there's a million other better choices of shorter and much beefier roadbike swingarms,  a featherweight dirtbike bouncing over bumps with long-travel suspension bears no resemblance to a 500lb+ road-going musclebike .  Also the reality is you can only use the middle drive shaft for the front sprocket. Or else talking laborious re-machining and redesign of half the engine!!

Funny story.... I was selling an original yamaha fairing off my xs and i ended up selling it to the guy who builds those so we traded, i have one but i didnt like it. I hate cars and car tires belong on cars not on motorcycles, so i started building my own design with strictly yamaha parts. That are easy to get your hands on and arent going to break the bank. Custom bikes arent about how much money you have they are about your own craftsmanship and ingenuity and so far so good im not broke and things are looking up.

Hi Steveo........i ve posted this link in other topics on here covering chain drive conversion..but  seeing as your new and just in case you missed it.........the only thing you d have to work on is shifting the motor in the frame 100mm to the right and setting up a counterbalance to get a reasonable tyre on the back!!!
 ;) ;) ;D ;D

The wheel is off a 2008 yamaha r1 as is the shock, the front sprocket is purely for mock up purposes only. The swing arm is a 1996 yz 250 flipped and cut down the center and given some extra width to accomodate that 190 tire i can use kawasaki zx9r front sprockets. Its a 530 o ring chain, oh and by not using the mid shaft for a drive sprocket i can use any sprocket i want to gear with

what's the wheel off, what's the swingarm off, what's the front sprocket off,  what's the chain size and what's the shock off?    the 18 tooth sprocket won't fit to the middledrive shaft,  14 is the largest that will,  don't listen to clueless textbook experts on the yank XS11 sites telling you "the chain will wear out too fast with a 14 tooth sprocket..",  twerps,  my 14 / 46 setup is still original perfect condition over 10,000 K's or more of thrashing,  also the 18/45? setup in the pic will be way overgeared too tall, 14 & 46 give close to stock gearing with a low 17" radial

The closer the sprocket is to the pivot point of the swingarm the less you need to deal with chain deflection, look at a yz 250 its in the same spot
