Carsten is right. These bikes are soooooo solid that even a hideous coat of rust and grime can soon be cleaned off and things look great again.

Look at Fred's bike. It's done 1/4 of a million miles and it looks like he picked it up from the showroom a week ago.  :D

The thing to do is look past how it looks now and imagine how it WILL look when its finished and back in the family.

There were some pics there of a nudge bar that someone fabricated. Thought that was maybe a good idea.

Thanks.  The site says sales to North America only.  I have emailed them to see if they can send to Australia

Carsten,

May be worth trying this stuff.

http://www.seized-engine.com/seized-engine.html

I only recommend it because one of the guys who has written a user comment "Roger Palmer" is a well respected bike restorer and he wouldn't say anything that wasn't 100% true.

Tried most things to get the old girl to turn over, unsuccessfully.(Its dead).   In the process of taking the painted parts off, for repainting.  Do you guys know where I might find a paint code (I know one exists) and who I can contact to buy the graphics needed.
Thanks
Carsten

I bought the aluminium ones from the German guy a couple of years ago and also use them as the horn button.
I'll see if I still have his card. (I doubt it, as I bought a couple of spares as well because they were only $5 each)
If you get really stuck mate I'll send you one.
Just for now though you can swap over the one from the horn to get you going.

They also have them at MikesXS. You probably want to think about gettoing a few things from them....

Here's your starter button. There's also a German guy that makes aliminium ones and I think they're cheaper.

I'll see if I can find him ....

Hi all.
Does anyone have a spare starter button assembly for sale.  As in the picture the button is missing.  I found an assembly from EBay America a couple of years ago, however the accompanying picture didnt show the starter,  Despite assurances from the seller that there was a button, low and behold I ended up with exactly the same (no button).  Bugger.
Thanks
Carsten
PS a photo only section of all the forum members bikes would be really good.

Hi and welcome to the site try this site for oem part numbers you dont have to sigh up just go straight to parts catologue  http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/myyamaha/prompt/L3Nwb3J0L3BhcnRzL2hvbWUuYXNweA==/Parts%20Catalog/starthere.aspx

All members should sign up at the UK site to use the parts cross-reference. Brian, who runs UK and Adminstrates here, has created a cross-reference that shows each part for your bike and all the other Yamaha bikes that use the same part.

Makes life much easier if you are looking on Ebay for a part from any 1 of 5 bikes rather than just from your own model. Often a lot cheaper too.

Stupid question first - bike is definitely out of gear??

Next, maybe you can try taking the timing cover off (Yamaha Logo on the left side - if sat on bike) and use a spanner to try turning / jiggling the flywheel.

Heat the cylinders with a heat gun, get them as hot as you can all round - might take 10-15 minutes to really let the heat get through them, then try shifting the flywheel.

Thanks guys.  Hope everyones under 40 or might die of old age waiting for the finished product.  Is there a product better than kero to try to unsieze the motor or maybe the time spent in the shed has been too long.  Ive tried several time over the last two weeks trying to kick it over.  It becomes a matter of time and dollars now.
Thanks
Carsten
