These are the best restorations to see then unfold on the website. Seeing someone put serious graft into taking something that looks nearly hopeless and finishing by riding it off into the sunset is a great thing.

Good luck Carsten and I hope we can all help along the way.

Hi all,  Here are some photos of the old girl.  When I took it off the road I put oil down the cylinder  Trying to free the pistons with a bit of kerosine and get it to turn over, not working yet.
ders.

Thanks
Carsten

Hi Carsten,

there is a CD of all Yamaha parts listing with cross referencing at www.zedder.com which I have found invaluable in purchasing parts on line. ;D
Many parts for our XS1100s are the same as for SR500, XS750, XS850 etc, etc. ???
And on the other hand there are parts for one XS1100 model that won't fit another XS1100 model. :-[ :-\
This CD will sort it out for you. ;D

We should put together a CD, that would be good.

Brian, who started the UK site and is a Moderator here created a parts site himself. It is invaluable. I suggest you sign up. All free.

Thanks for the welcome guys.  I will post some  photos shortly.  Present bike is a 1994 Honda ST1100 and enjoy long distance riding (Farrider).  Is there a CD or site available showing part numbers for the old girl?  If there is how do we go about getting a copy.  I have a Clymer workshop manual.
Thanks
Carsten

Great story Carsten.

Get some pics up and tell us all about it. There's a heap of knowledge on the site and there won't be anything that someone doesn't know all about.

Hi all.  Just introducing myself.  My name is Carsten, from Tasmania.  I have a 1978 XS1100E  (registered 1979), maroon in colour.  I have owned "the pig" for 28 years.  I took it off the road approx. 13 years ago and its sat in our shed ever since.  I am slowly (very) planning to completely restore the bike to its former glory.  Found this site via a google search originating from the OCT/NOV 2008 Motorcycle Trader magazine featuring the XS1100.  Love the bike, will never sell and I hope via this site to access help.
Thanks
Carsten
