Scotty, it does use about 500-750 ml per 1000klms but it does have some leaks at the oil cooler hose junctions that Geoff's kindly donated the O-rings for, so it doesn't use much. Probably loses more than it uses.
How much does yours go through?
Actually, the important question. How many k's did it have on it when you got it?
Mine only had 18,700 klms from new so I had an idea how well the bike had been kept.

Scotty, The motor is all original. It's never had the head off. It is on its fifth cam chain, though.I don't like it when they get a bit rattly. Oops, that's not original. Does that count?? Everything else other than the oil, filters and plugs are.

Mate, on the little run Steptoe and I had last weekend, I can feel the difference EVERYWHERE!!
Mind you, I felt the difference too when I stopped in to pick up a 3 litre bottle of milk & a loaf of bread on the way home. Anyone for Naan bread?

I'd like to announce the passing of another milestone in my motorcycle riding career. My trusty XS11 Special has now done 300,000th (no misprint) klm and after giving it some more TLC and preventative maintenance, it's now ready for its next stint. Oh, and I put it on a diet, too!

^Before.....

^After......

I had a bit of a story written up about how we've reach this milestone, but when I put in the last updates, I must've changed the file type or something and I can't open the #$%#% thing! So I'll get another one soonish.

I'd just like to quickly thank everyone online here for help with my questions and queries, And especially Christian and Brian, who've made this whole internet forum thing happen. Guys, I hope you realise how much of a help this has been to all the owners out there in XS land.
It's really helped me out. My bike and I really appreciate it!
