I might have to reconsider this one.
The extra 450 kms may take more time than we have available. :(

Mates, this is starting to sound like a really happening thing, When i first saw the subtle difference in km,s i was a bit sceptical so I had a play on google earth and steptoe was pretty much on the mark.
Below are some pics and facts to help others visualise the difference. the chart looks a bit wonky but you can get the idea
The lads from SA who were first in to show some interest in  bourke do lose out a little as far as distance to go but hopefully with plenty of notice and planning time we'll see you there at Bendemeer

Place of origin              Bourke   Bendemeer
Townsvile                        1490       1730
Adelaide                       1130       1580
Melbourne                       1230       1000
Bundaberg                       1170       860
Sydney                       who      cares         :-)

thats a rough plan,, will depend on distances travelled and times they come thru your town,  but if your ready when they come thru, bobs your uncle

we're trying the same thing,, AL's coming down from T/ville,  hopefully will work out to be evening, stop the night, slip out and pick up Ev, and off we go ,, will try and grab Tony and Brian on the way thru brissy

righto lads, this is where we're at now, a "group" inclusive of admin and members from the most southerly point of OZ to the most northerly point, have been thrown together to plan this,

as some have already booked time off, IT WILL BE HAPPENING,,  w/end of the 4th, 5th and 6th of may 2012

we are seriously considering moving the venue from Bourke,, 90 degrees towards the coast, BUT STOPPING on top of the great dividing range

there are 4 main reasons for this,,   1, xtian has to come, most of us are aware of his health battles, and although he won't complain about the pain of riding the best part of 800klm, will you mate ;), we can't expect him to put up with that,, let alone the ride home again

2, distances between fuel stops, not to keen on guys carrying extra "loose" fuel containers, if not needed,

3, the distance and the remoteness, also pose another threat in case of breakdown, or worse,  some may have never been out there, although beautiful, there is also hundreds and hundreds x 6, and hour upon hour of flatness, and straightness,

4, we are on bikes with round tyres that need wearing evenly, for fellas that have distances to cover, the long flat roads will take care of time taken, and for a change can easily slip into the hills for a break

for the guys from SA it will be just on an extra 200ish klm, {1 tank of fuel} from Vic less 200ish klm, and from FNQ will be another 340 klm, not that Al cares at all :)

although it will be a shorter ride for the NSW guys, {and much more comfortable for xtian} but if all goes to plan, the boys coming thru from south can pick up as they move north, a ride consisting of how many XS's in one spot?? what's that worth ;D 8)

we are working towards a camp ground  north of tamworth, on top of the Oxley highway, itself a brilliant area for bike riding,

we 're figuring we'll put some concrete to the plans for fellas that need to plan time off,

so that's what the plan is, line up your time off and we'll start looking forward to the date 8)

Geoff

I'm feeling like this might just get togetther, I'd be happy to meet someone from Canberra and possibly hook up with Peter 65, Christian or others from Sydney, but I'd be looking at leaving home on Thursday and make it a 2 day ride!!! Any feedback on that?

Cheers

Lou

Hey exesiv11 and all
There are no details yet....only whats been bantered around in this thread. I contacted Bourke counsil to see what they could do or what was available to us in there region. There response  and my initioal contact with them is in the thread below posted on my behalf by Christian
I was waiting to see what response the XS group had before I had anymore communication with Bourke.
I feel some momentum might be building? yes?
