Dear eveready1100,
Hi Errol
I'm sorry that this listing may be confusing. The photo shows the exact cable and fittings that this item would provide if bought. As you said it doesn't have the correct fittings so therefore isn't suitable for your model. I will certainly let the Admin Team know to modify the listing.

Just got a reply to my first email, dated the 19th. Their answer was that that cable will fit the Special as well! Interesting. I've sent back this photo of a Special's Cable to see if I get any reaction from that.

Might take them another week or so to get back to me, if they're consistent.

Saw this listed on Ebay last week. - CLICK

I sent a question back then,  to the seller regarding the fitment of this cable, as it has the knurled nut fittings to suit a Standard. He hasn't replied as yet, so I've just fired him off another request for clarification of what he calls an XS1100 S.
If you own a Special, or an RH and you're after a Speedo cable to fit your bike, don't be confused by the wording in the listing. The one pictured won't fit your bike!

I will keep on his case till I get some response from this guy (strange way to run a business) and if I do get a reply, I'll let you know either way it goes

Went to my local yamaha dealer early last year to get a cable for my '78E (Standard) and was told after he checked his computer that there were three in existance in Australia.

Soooooo I bought the lot at $16.00 each. :P

If anyone falls in a hole with theirs let me know, :) but only if you really need it. Not as a spare please. >:(

My cable proper came home today. Got a bit of a shock when it was $20 more expensive that the Standard one. Anyway, hopefully won't have to face that predicament for another 30 years, as it was (to my knowledge) the original cable.
Just FYI
Cable inner kit - $17.97
Standard cable complete - $28.00 - genuine
Special / RH cable complete - $48.00 -  genuine

Prices may vary as to where you're located but that's what they are up here in the CQ region.

Hey Ev
whats the difference between a standard and RH kable? length?
How does the price compare between your ebay find and a genuine kable?

I've been running around now for about 4 weeks with a broken speedo cable. I get a bit nervous when a candy car approaches as I'm not absolutely sure how fast I'm going. My tacho doesn't help much as it's got a flicker in it between 2000 - 4000rpm so I'm riding in town basically by sound alone.
Dropped by the shop where I ordered my new cable only to be told, apparently that there aren't any in Australia at the moment, and it'll be another two weeks before they can get one. Hmmmm.
This was on my fourth attempt to pick up the cable. After one trip (120klms) specifically to pick it up, thereafter trying to drop by when on other errands in the big smoke, or the latest dash from work at lunchtime, and I mean DASH!
First time, they'd got the wrong one in. I specifically told them I needed one for an RH, not a standard (didn't want to waste my breath explaining what a Special was), and sure as eggs, there was a Standard's cable staring at me. It was probably the distributor's fault by having a predisposition towards what they think the customer wants, not what he's asked for. I come across that all the time with my bike. It would've been nice to  be informed of the two week wait thing after the third attempt, I feel
Anway, I've had my bitch. I've got another trip to Brissie coming up next weekend and the trailer's going to be used as a toolbox this trip, and I won't have steptoe with me this time to use as a remote speed regulator device, so in desperation, I had a look around Ebay, and found this bit of kit- SPEEDO CABLE INNER

It comes with any adapters you may need for any bike, offered with free postage, arrived at my door one and a half days after I placed my order, and had it fitted in less than 15 minutes.
If anyone finds themselves in a similar predicament, I thoroughly recommend one of these to get you out of trouble

............And now it's starting to rain.
