Mine uses 1L.oil per 2000ks-any comments?

Re-name it a Triumph and accept the inevitable ??..... ;D :P  No, seriously, My SG uses about the same amount. 30 year old engines tend to have a little ring wear going on but these are very tough engines and it'll go for years like that. I tend to think of it as compulsory oil changes. Just keep the filters up to date and your sweet.  ;)

Message received Scotty! Now get back to the dilithium crystals.

Where are you? If you're near another member it might be possible that someone can have a look at the bike for you.

Probably best that you do a compression test to determine if one particular piston is cuasing a problem.

You can buy a compression tester at Repco for about 20 bucks. Better still, borrow one.  :D

If the rings are stuck in the grooves of the piston they will let a lot of oil past them into the chamber where it is burnt.

If the cleaner does it's job overnight and dissolves some of the gunk it might free up the rings and they'll spring out and fill the gap between the piston and the bore.

It could be that the engine is worn and the cleaner won't fix anything, but it's well worth a try.

Do the easiest stuff first.

Pour a little neat fuel system cleaner (Valvoline is the cheapest) into the cylinders and leave it overnight.

This will help unstick any clogged up rings.

Has the motor sat unused for a long period of time? maybe hard valve stem seals? any leaks? Black exhaust? worn rings and hard riding? just some ideas........
