all you need now is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,to be VERY precise in your end results,, all 4 sync gauges exactly calibrated,  and read exactly the same on all carbs,, do the same no matter what parts your working on, as close as your eyes can see anyhow

if your chasing 8 1/2 degrees BTDC on your timing plate,, don't settle for 8 1/4

be anal about the results,,, you'll feel the difference,, it might take a bit longer,, BUT

Hi Jonesy,

It was pretty well the carbs that made the difference. He balanced them then "colourtuned" them. He did a few other bits and pieces but the engine is so smoooth now (and snappy).

Hey Tony
Can you give us a run down on what steptoe attended to?
Might have to coax him down to Bathurst...sounds like he made a good transformation.

Jonesy.

Good to hear it  came up nice. I did mine recently with a carb balance and a colortune and it went from great to glorious.

Had a cracking 200km run today, just fantastic in the winter sun.  ;D ;D ;D

I took my new (30 year old) bike down to see Steptoe (Geoff) today. I met him at the Glasshouse Mountains on the Sunshine Coast. To cut a long story short, in an hour or so he added the words, smooth, response and punch to all the other good words I have to say about the XS. With a few tools and a bit of Geoff magic on the side of the road, I feel like I have a new bike. It just GOES!!

I took the long way home up through Peachester, then across to Malaney/Monville/Flaxton before returning home. Going up to Peachester some nice guys on some bikes coming the other way waved that a radar was ahead just in case I was accidentally going slightly fast, thanks guys :)

Lunched at Montville then played with a Porsche on the way back.

What can I say - "Thanks Geoff". Just doubled the fun value on an already great bike!!!!

NOTE: It just goes to show what a difference someone who understands these bikes can make. This is a great site, a great bunch of people and the XS is a great bike!!
