Thanks for the feedback guys. The bikes in pretty good shape. Just in the last few days the speedo  stopped working which is a problem in the gear (I've posted this in general talk.) The carby I don't think is properly setup. It starts idling at around1200 but as soon as it is properly warm idles at 2,000. It also is not quite clean revving between 2800 and 3300.

I will need to learn to fix it all myself, but don't have a garage/shed at the minute. Again thanks everyone for the great support.

I'm with Melb Tony,, do it yourself, they're a very simple bike to work on,

sometimes not so simple to find out what's wrong, :'(-----------but to fix it  :)

all else fails there are a few of us not far away,, Bryans at albany ck, and 2 of us are 2 3/4 hrs off

looking at it tho, doesn't seem to be to much that can't be adjusted,, it's a dry motor, or have you washed it before the pics?,, going on the heat ring on the rear brake disc, might pay to check the pad depth, rest looks very tidy, if the bike runs as good as it looks, you've bought yourself a goodie,,

as for shops in your area, I can make a couple of phone calls to mates to find a "trusted" one if you like,, still don't know where you are  :D

Nice pics. Bike looks great.

One thing you'll find with these bikes is that they need a bit of work done once in a while, but none of it requires skills that you can't develop yourself.
You'll save a fortune and you'll know the job has been done properly. You'll also feel good about having saved yourself a packet.

I had never done my own bike maintenance until I got the XS11, and in the last 3 years I've been through the whole bike - except for an engine rebuild.

I've rebuilt the carbs, the brakes, the forks, adjusted valves and timing, changed oils, fluids, changed out the coils, replaced the old fuse box along with stripping, cleaning and painting most of the bike.

There isn't any way I could have done all that without the help of the guys on here and the amazing UK site.

All of the info is laid out in detail and there's nothing you can't do yourself. I'd hope you take the opportunity to DIY.

If you need any info just shout out - there are some real experts on here.

Here's a good place to start:

Thanks for the welcome guys.

My bike is a darkish green 1980 model.

Do you guys have any suggestions for somewhere good to have work done on my bike  around the Sunshine Coast or Brisbane. It would be good to have someone who actually understands the bike.

Again thanks for the warm welcome  :)

Hey Tony,
welcome aboard mate, I am sure you will enjoy your time here as we are friendly bunch and the wealth of knowledge is endless. What year is your XS? and do you know it's history?
I will agree with you 100% with your comment - "Greatest bike I have ever ridden. I love it. It brings back enjoyment to riding 10/10"

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi everyone,

I've finally seen the light and bought an XS1100. !!! Always wanted one, so finally went looking and bought one. Great forum you have here!!

The bikes I've had:
MT125 - rode this bike to death 3/10
XLX250-Slow but bulletproof. Good in its day 5/10
XR500-Great bike for in the dirt 7/10
TT600-Heavy, great hill climber 6/10
GSX1100EFE - Fast bike, used to get the death wobbles at 80 k's when decelerating downhill 7/10
CBR400R - Jap import. Just OK, not much power. 3/10
CBR100RR Fireblade (07) - Fast, handles - good if you want to race all day. 6/10
XS1100 (80) - Greatest bike I have ever ridden. I love it. It brings back enjoyment to riding 10/10
