Its a great feeling being able to help someone improve their bike. It's also great to be helped. The forum has brought a lot of people together and made helping each other easier. Nice story Steppers.  :)

it started as a plan to pull the xj front brakes apart, and suss out the gear problem,,

am in the shed stripping the master cylinder, when a familiar sound comes down the street,, I said to myself," that has to be an 11,, self agreed,, the next thought was what's EV up to,,

was right about the 11 singing,, wrong about it being EV,

ANOTHER 11 pulled up in front my house  :o I couldn't believe it 8),, my part supplier {Kerry} and he had been talking at different times and gave him my number,, had talked once, but quite a while ago, but to have him roll up was really  8)

the xj was suddenly forgotten for a while,, we walked round and round them as we do,, spotted a couple of things that needed a bit of loving,, the off centre fork leg, when the calliper boss touches the disc, a couple of oil leaks that where loose bolts,

we chatted about stuff and life, he'd owned it for yrs, had a small rebuild 6 yrs ago,, since then little or no maintenance apart from oils and plugs,{needs carby parts and a good going over}  we were talking about the price of w/shops and the lack of talk about what fixed the problem had,, eg,, he said the top was quite rattly, he was talking about putting it in for a valve adjust, so I started it,, immediately turned it off and grabbed a 10mm and a 12mm spanner, and tightened the chain, rattle gone, we were saying the w/shop wouldn't have told you what was fixed, but charged an arm and leg and let you go

whilst tensioning , noticed the end plug was gone,   so quick fixed that too,, only had half a gasket, so made a new one of them too, so 2 1/2 - 3 hrs later ;D I felt he rode away satified he'd found someone to HELP him fix his bike

the bloke that owns the xj, I sent round to Kerry for some bits, he couldn't remember all of the list,{ he's not mechanical } so he had Kerry ring me, i answer the phone, and all I hear is  "o great one", ??? bloody hell mate whats the go with that, :o " if the cap fits" he says,, :P  how 8) cool is that

over a very late lunch, I was relaying the story to Michelle and happily remarked, all the fella's I've met that ride these bikes are  genuine down to earth guys

so that set me for a contented w/end, no matter what happened,, { don't ask about the xj  :-\} :D ;)
