Who does the best deal for a Colortune after reading the posts I think it will be a handy thing to have and to hold.

Gday Cooper,

How'd you go with the Colourtune?  Happy to throw in some $$ if you wanted - it'll be handy to have one in Adelaide.  Once I get the hole in my exhaust fixed I'd be keen to have a look at the carb balancing, but reckon I'll need some help!

Thanks for the Tip on Terry the exhaust guy too.  I gave him a call yesterday and he seems like a good bloke.  I'll be taking the bike in as soon as I get the chance.

Well fella's. You sold me!
Since Geoff (Steptoe) gave my bike a tickle up before our run up the mountain the other week, I'ts been a different beast to ride. Didn't have a speedo till the other day, so I had no way to gauge exactly how much better it's been running. Well, now I have some preliminary figures to go with the much improved throttle response and smoothness and sweeter running etc. etc..
Now these old girls have never been really economical to start with and in it's present state of dress, carries an extra 46kgs of weight around, and combined with me rejoicing in its newly rediscovered performance improvement and playing a fair bit, I'm currently getting what works out to 36mpg in the old language which I'm very happy with indeed.
One day when I've settled down a bit, I'll give it a full on economy test (100kph, no more) and see what happens then. Till then, Thank you Steptoe, and your new colourtune toy.
Thoroughly recommended!

@ rideaway ray

I think as you yourself write that balancing is the correct word, when it comes to carbs and temperature measurement, have a cheap digital "point and shoot" type i use on the headers when i suspect some cylinder(s) are slacking, to determin the need or not for a balancing the carbs against eachother.

The Color-Tune on the other hand gives you an instant view of the air/fuel-mixture inside the cylinder, and changes colour accordingly, giving an easy way of adjusting each carby to correct mixture, BEFORE balancing them against eachother with vacuum-gauges or whatever preferred tool people use for that job.

So i`d only use the thermometer as a quick indication of balancing-needs one carb against the other, and not to adjust the fuel-mixture  :)

Never heard of this one before.  I like it though.

Colour of the flame relates directly to combustion temperature, correct?

That would also explain why one can use an infrared thermometer on the header pipes to help balance carbs.

Pointing a thermometer at a header would be quicker but would it be as accurate?  That would make an interesting comparison.  But how to measure the result?
cheers

Had my first quick go with the colour tune today, I was a bit lazy and did it with the tank on, the 2 inner cylinders for some reason were a bit out, only a couple of hundred kays ago I set them all to 1 & 1/4 turns out. Will have a proper tank off go when Grant (Aussiexs11) comes around and idle speed and vacumm  can be reset as well, plus I'll take note of how many turns out I end up with

Results of first (practise) go was previous ridiculous amount of popping and farting under deceleration is almost gone and idle speed is up a bit from what it was

Hey Paul,
If you have one of these kits coming, how about a "practice day" on old "pebbles"?
I could spin out to Bathurst.
Let me know if you are into it.
Grant

I don't think you'll regret it Geoff.

And like you say, there's plenty of folk can benefit from the one set.

Jeff's bike is always very well set-up, but we could tell there was an improvement there too. Between Jeff's carbtune and my colourtune Vic is now well set.

If anyone wants a tuning day, just yell out.
