Christian is that one of those German Ebay EDElLSTAHL-AUSPUFF systems?
The guy I was talking to earlier in this thread is very busy and understaffed and my system may have gone off the edge of his radar........so I'm interested in information about other makers.
Eddy how did you come by a brand new original system?

Hi Folks,

I have just fitted a brand new set of originals onto my 78E I can take photos of the system and the mounts and take the measurements.  (stand by) Tomorrow or Monday

I had a staintune system fitted to this bike prior to and the difference in power is very apparent.

The original system offers a much smoother ride throughout the power range.

Guys I would definitley be interested in a set of chromed replicas. I have stated previously that I would give my left nut for a set on the Special. Here is the problem. The Special came out with shorter mufflers/exhaust system. The open end of the muffler finished just short of the axle bolt, making rear wheel removal easy as!!!

Keep me in the loop please. The chromed ones would have to be double skinned to eliminate blueing of the chromed headers.

Bit of an update on the pipes

spoke to the exhaust shop guy today and discussed a couple of the finer points.

some dimensions supplied by Jarrad (thanks)
1) The larger diameter they can only do 100mm rather than 105.
2) small diameter 41mm and taper length 670 are no drama
3) my option was for no balance tube so basically 2 off  2-1 systems, past experience with a system like this is that bike will perform quite well......flat spot non existent.
4) point3 keeps cost down
5) Minimum header pipe dia they can do is 38mm which should be ok .....my 4-1 syatem has this
6) the lower bend on the header pipe will be a slightly tighter bend than than factory original
7) will be all slip together and clamped as opposed to common practise to fully weld. Again my choice and this should help reduce the chances of stress cracking.
8] all polished stainless
9)  pic shows a couple of end cap options. (My preference is for the one standing up)
10) Internal baffling cant be duplicated (cheaply) so it will have the popular style of "muffling" that looks a bit like a cylindrical cheese grater up the guts with that fluffy packing stuff between it and the outer pipe
11) 2-1 transition will be a y piece, similarto  but not exactly the same as factory, rather than the German Ebay EDElLSTAHL-AUSPUFF almost Tee style transition.

Ball park figure is $1700
To be on the safe side I would allow a blow out of 10% on that so low 1800's
Price may be negotiable if multiple order.
I indicated there could be 2 other guys interested.
So.......anyone interested?

Excellent ,thanks Jarrad.
Coupla little details, by measurement or description. Where is/does the balance tube located/passunderneath.
Do the standard headers inhibit access to the sump allen head screws and sump removal?

Hey Jonesy,
Just did a quick measure of my pipes.  Here are the numbers:

Small end diameter = 41mm
Large end diameter = 105mm
Length taper to taper point = 670mm

Hope this helps mate.  Let me know if you need any other measurements.
Cheers,
Jarrad

One word of caution.  I recall asking Staintune about a full system, years and years and years ago. My recollection is they had major dramas with breakage.   I've got Staintune mufflers, fitted to rusty standard headers.  Job for a chromer, eventually.

Replica pipes are a great idea.  Made properly, there would be a market.  But 'near enough' would be a recipe for failure.  How many Z900 or 750/4 'replica' set ups are there that really don't look much like the original, except for maybe being 4 into 4 and fitting between the mounting points?

cheers

Apparently this bloke can rebuild pipes to spec. He was mentioned in an article through the VJMC
If enough people ask him it may be worth his while to make up a jig.
Not cheap but VERY good according to the writer

hi stout,

on the rh those mounts u refer to on the lower part of the frame had a cross piece of metal plate
attached to strengthen the frame, with a 4 -1 exhaust that
cross peice doesnt fit, i think the only recent times ive heard/seen of that
piece being still fitted to a bike was when christian purchased his rh
a little while ago.

not sure if melb still has that brace, i know he still has the original exhaust on his bike.
