Hi Jonesy,

I live in the Strathbogie Ranges in Victoria which I'm sure is very close to the South pole in Winter and miraculously somewhere about the equator in summer.

Like Errol, I've played with the plug ranges and can't find any "measurable" advantages in either direction from the standard BP6ES.

1,100 klm a week for years at -10c at 6am in winter to +45c at 5pm in summer.
A friend will help you move,

By the time I got the tank off (out of practise) It had cooled enough to stop smoking but I'm guessing it was from a bit of surface oil from a weeping valve cover gasket.

They probably will do in a long run, Jonesey. I tried changing mine from the standard BP6ES one winter to try to cure cold start hassles but I ended up going back to the originals as they were no help at all. Unless you're spending a day out at a racetrack, I couldn't see any benefit from switching from the normal heat range of plugs.
Wherabouts was the smoke coming from exactly??

That was what I  was hoping to hear... I think.
Do hotter plugs mean higher running temps?

Hi Jonesy

Those plugs equate to BP6ES so they are hotter plugs than your recommended BP8ES

Yesterday I took the bike out for its maiden registered run of about 40 Km into town and back and on return I started going over it with a temp sensor gun (for the off with the cooler post)and after a few minutes of idling I seen smoke starting to waft up from under the tank. I was seeing temps of about 80 - 90 deg C off the filter housing, sump and oil pipe to the cams before I shut it down.

Thats a long winded way of getting to my Q.

The good book says Champion/NGK plug types BP8ES/N8Y

The plugs in mine are Bosch W7 DC which are going to be replaced with iether of the above.

Finally the question.

Does anyone have a plug comparison chart in there backpocket ;D that could shed some light on these numbers and heat range and effect on running temps?
