If your doing the second and or first gear repairs....... pics and a brief description of the work are always welcomed if possible.I know there are already some reports on other sites and links probably on here but you can never have too much information and reference material .

Hi Peter - couldnt find the link on your reply. The lever feels like it isnt connected to anything so I suspect a pin has dropped out or something. If it were a bent selector then there would be more resistance on the lever i'd recon. Doesnt matter as I'll pull it apart shortly to do second gear and I'm sure I'll find the problem then...

heres a link to the us .org site,
about 3 quarters of the way down the page is a post by trbig with a
cpl of pics of the gear shifter cover removed (i couldnt find another pic)
if u lean the bike up against the wall u can remove the cover and inspect
that the pins are still in there location and the shift pawl lines up,
other than that as melb stated could be a bent shift fork.

I think I remember this often being a bent selector fork, possibly because of the 2nd gear problem and the extra strain on the selector forks.

Someone who actually knows what they are talking about will be along soon though.  ;D

Mine's now stuck in first gear. The lever moves up & down ok but doesnt feel like its attached to anything. I'm going to pull the motor out shortly to do sencond gear, but I'm curious as to what the new problem could be so I know where to look. Any suggestions.
