Checked my '78E and I've got:

R - BQ
L - AK

The letters are none too neatly hand stamped into the leg.

I do know that one of my forks is not the original.
Search me what it means unless it's the quality assurance inspector's initials.

I put that explanation forward because I have a 6.5mm Carcano jungle carbine and the old ammo for it has the QC and Packer's initials stamped into the rim of the cartridge for traceability if there is a problem later.

I had a squizz at the forks on the E. No joy mate. Can't see any marks near the axle at all. Sorry.

I've just been checking out my recently acquired new 33year year old cycle and noticed some letters stamped into the fork tubes just above the axle. RH side has CV stamped in and the LH has CO. Anyone else got letters stamped in to there forks?......know what it means?
