Thanks Eveready.
Good tip about the extra gas on the bends for the shaft drive - I'll have to give it a go when I next get out.  By normal 'handle' do you mean a name?  (Still learning all the forum lingo!)
Had a good session with the Autosol and a couple of rags this morning.  Gotta love that shiny chrome!
Cheers,

Gidday XSEDGE (have you got a normal handle?)  That's a sweet machine you've got yourself there.
I didn't realise there were so many still around till I found this site, and the guys on here are very dedicated to keeping them around for a long time yet.
The trick to the shaft thing is if you've found yourself overcommitted to a bend (happens, sometimes a lot) , give her the gas and the bike stands up on the rear suspension and you get another couple of degrees of lean out of it. True! try it on a road you know. Trust me , it works a treat!

One month in an as XS owner and I still haven't wiped the grin off my face!
Starts first push every time and bloody great fun to ride. The shaft drive was a little different at first but all's good now.
Only problem is finding a window on the weekend to get out for a proper ride...is 4 & 5 yrs too young for kids to be home alone?

Hope to see it in the flesh one day.
                                                don't you mean metal :o ;D :D

These bikes are more than mere metal Steptoe. They provide the sort of joy and also frustration that can only come from a living, breathing creature.   :D

Thanks for the welcome guys - got the official sticker pack from Xtian in the post yesterday too!

Cooper - I'll send you my mob number so we can catch up for a run through the hills one weekend.  I'm out at Modbury, so the hills are nice and close.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd say g'day and introduce myself...and my 'new' ride.

http://s1106.photobucket.com/albums/h364/xsEDGE/

I'm brand new to the XS scene and have to say that this forum is brilliant.  I'd been keen on the idea of a late 70's - early 80's bike for a while and popped into Yamaha Pittmans one day a few weeks ago for no particular reason...and was blown away by the XS sitting there, right next to Mal's restored version of Greg Pretty's racing bike.  Couldn't believe the condition of this bike for somethin 30+ years old with 55k on the clock.  Took it for a test ride and was hooked.

Managed to negotiate a good deal and get the price down quite a bit.  Had to laugh when I saw the following forum topic, which I'm pretty sure was about the new bike - don't worry, I didn't pay $7.5k for it!    http://xs1100.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=797.0

My previous bike was a 2004 Suzuki Bandit, which was a brilliant all-rounder.  Must admit that I was a bit sad to part with it, but there's just something extra special about the XS...the chrome, the twin pipes, the sound, the fact that there aren't that many going around...and the smile I can't seem to wipe off my face every time I ride it!

My wife also rides and has her own bike.  Made it a whole lot easier on the marriage when it came to the marital sales pitch for buying the XS...gotta love a woman on a bike!

Being my first older bike, I'm keen to get on this forum to read your tips and to learn as much as I can about the XS.  The plan's to keep it going and in good nick for at least another 30 years.

Cheers,

xsEDGE
