Hen, you'd probably do best to get in touch with Phil (EXS1.1) as he's the only member that I know has one of these systems on his bike.
I'm pretty sure that Overlander really just need to get an XS11 to their workshop to iron out the fitment issues they have had.
There's nothing wrong with the beefy sound of a 4 into one. It's just the tuning issues they create as these bikes were carefully designed for their stock systems, and any changes alter the engine characteristics greatly.

Thanks Errol, I emailed them the copies you posted here! What we really need is a detailed schematic with measurements. Even Yamaha Australia can't find one.

Dan,
I emailed Motexpro my original Higher res photos of the cutaway system for them to look at. Perhaps Jonesey might have some good photos of his recently acquired Standard system to forward to them as well.

Actually, if anyone has pics of the stock system, it would be great if you can email them directly to:-

motexpro@bigpond.net.au

I've also been contacted by Barry from Overlander equipment. If any Melbournites have a standard '78 and could let Barry have it for a short while, he said he'd tool up for a stock system for us if there were a demand. Barry's email address is overlander@fastmail.fm  Even if you email him expressing interest it might go some way to finally having two suppliers of replica stock systems.

Actually after reading a reply to his thread over there, I don't feel quite so bad now -

Quote
From James England - I bought a set of these from the same place and posted pix here.......

A few things.... I had to have the balancer box seriously modified and a piece cut out of it in order to allow the centre stand to retract properly (cost me $70 to get that done) The right side of the balancer box really needed to have a bevel in it and didn't have one. Also, you'll find it may take a lot of messing about to get the silencers attached to the mounting points on the alloy hangers. Mine needed spacers and washers and all sorts to get them to fit. Also, there are no clamps on the system whatsoever... the pipes just push into the collector boxes and that's it. I sawed lines in mine and bought stainless clamps and used exhaust paste.

People here pointed out that my bike's system had a slight upturn to it. This was because the angle of the pipes from the balancer box was slightly out. It didn't bother me particularly, so I left it.

The system sounds lovely, exactly as per OEM. The yellowing of the headers is completely unavoidable and I gave up polishing it off.
I had to find chrome heat shield trims and made a way of attaching them to the exhaust system...it looked bare without them
One other thing... my system arrived with a dent in one silencer, visible when on the bike. I did get a $75 partial refund from the German bloke though. I then got someone to remove the dent using dry ice.
This exhaust system is not a precision, easy fit. Mine took a lot of messing and some modification to get it to fit reasonably well. It does sound lovely though... quiet and exactly as per OEM

Err, Ummm, Dan had actually ordered one of those $$$$ German systems and had put up a post on the dot com site about it. I then put up a reply telling him about the Overlander systems which resulted in him cancelling his order immediately, and getting in touch with Phil (XS1.1) who had one such Overlander system, but had a problem with fitment issues, which he has told the details to Dan, who is now looking at other options..............................
My bad, maybe?

Well it turns out that he doesn't need a stock system, just photographs and a bike to check fitment. The double wall stops discolouration but I'm not to worried about that. Those cutaway pics are amazing, got any more, say, of the mufflers? They would be really useful. I'd be happy if he could produce a system that looks stock and allows for optimum performance.  Jonesy, I've been in Contact with Barry from Overlander, and he's not able to supply a 'plug and play' type system. I've also spoken with Phil and he has explained the issues he had with fitment so that's why I'm exploring other options.

Hey Dan
Theres a mob in Warnombool (or something like that) in VIC called "Overlander" apparently they do a stainless 4 into 2 system for the XS with jigs already to go, no need to have the bike to measure up, dont know about the muffler internals though. To be honest your probably not going to get an exact replica unless of course you got a fat wallet. Just my opinion .....but a reasonable 4 - 2 system will still be better than a 4 -1.

It s whats inside the muffler that counts.
People who don t have an original exhaust system on their bike........have nt experienced and don t understand what the rest of us that do have one.......waffle on about ........regarding the low and mid range power and torque developed with the factory system.
Check out the internals of the muffler below.
If he can replicate the internals as well to factory specs.........then the excercise is worth while.........

Double Walled Headers.....

If not..........you will enjoy a nice looking expensive stainless system minus the performance benefits.
Check out the post regarding Phil s bike.

........he had one made out of stainless....and had issues with the finish on the headers changing colour.
Let us know how you go and what they quote you to build such a system.
Hope you have good luck finding one to break down for them to replicate as well.

I've found a fabrication company, Motexpro, who will make up a stainless steel replacement exhaust system. They are located south of Brisbane and have told me that they can make up a pattern if they have a bike to look at.
