Thanks for the info. Is there any advantage to changing back to 4r0 tci and non mechanical timing plate.
Is the advance similar?

You have an 81 RH. It has the timing plate for a standard fitted (E, F, G or H) it has a centrifical weighted pick up. This timing set up is compatible with the 2H7 TCI box.
If you change the TCI you will need to match it with a 4RO timing plate with a non mechanical advance. If you need to chat PM me your phone number and I can talk you through it.

Hi
Sorry I have been slow.. Hectic time of year..
Yes the frame and engine starts with 5n5. I will have a look at the timing plate in next couple of days.
But it's looking like I will need the 4r0 tci. Which seem to be quite hard to get. Found a few in Europe.

Hey Maark, does your frame and engine start with “5N5”? And

Is your timing plate fixed or does it have slotted holes for adjustment?

81 frankenbike..tci question
« Reply #1 on: December 19, 2019, 08:38:15 PM »
Hi all
I am loving building this bike..front end almost ready to go back on..
After much research. i think i have an older tci..type tid14-01...2h7-10..I also have the resistor on the left side of the frame plus green coils(12v CM12-08  903) i tested these and are 1.5 ohms
My bike is an 81LH..special. frame and engine numbers match. obviously bits and peices have been used to get this going..
My question is...should i try to source and 81 tci? and ditch the resistor and go for 3ohm coils? (still researching mechanical or vacuum advance etc)
any info would be much appreciated..

after a little more research.it seems the easiest option is replace tci with 4r0 model..otherwise i could have problems with timing advance..will have a look at the timing setup tomorrow..
