We had a twit over here a few years back that suggested that the annual registration fees for bikes should be increased 10 fold to force bikes off the road. He was the chairman of the local district health board at the time, and his wife was on the local council, so Land Transport took a serious look at the idea

until the national Bikers Rights Organisation (BRONZ) told LTNZ that any attempt to do this would result in widespread civil disobedience and 90% of owners probably would'nt register, and continue to ride anyway. The Govt agreed and told mr Ogg he was a twit and he should keep his opinions to himself as they didnt represent the views of the general public. I wrote a 3 page letter for the local paper at the time that made the front page, calling the guy an idiot and asking why he thought that someone who'd paid over 10 grand for a new bike would suddenly stop riding it just because the extortion fees had increased. He never replied but lots of other people did, and not one supported him. He was voted out at the next DHB election.
Lot's of noise and letter writing is the only way to deal with these people. Public humiliation of public figures works wonders.
