So, here's a short list of attempts to sort the problem
Clean air filter. No
New spark plugs. No
Repair broken pickup wires. No
Swap tci black box. No
Run bike in shed at night looking for stray sparks. No
Swap coils and leads. No
Strip and clean carbys. No
Spray aerostart around inlet manifold for change in rpm. No
Swap carbys. YES!!
Now I have to go back to carby school
Glad that sorted it coz then I would be lost for ideas

Jonesey,

When I soldered my pickup wires (the first time) I didn't insulate the join well enough. At higher revs presumably with the movement in the Advance mechanism it shorted. I'm no expert but thought I'd put it out there.

I don’t know about the leads Jonesy, I’m certainly no expert, but what I’ve learnt over the years is that they won’t work on some engines, our little 1970’s Nissan forklift with old points and coil ign won’t even fire with them on! And it uses NGK bp6es plugs.
If your Dyna cools are 3 “K” ohm shouldn’t you have 3 “K” ohm caps on it? What does Dyna say?
I do know that sil carb leads have a limited lifespan. Geeeese I love diesel’s!
Can’t really offer anything else😕 maby if you’ve got some old leads and caps just try them.

Hmm, I see a pattern here that's 3 times now I've been told silicon carbon leads are no good. maybe I should listen to this advice and get copper leads and resistor type caps.
would you expect these silicon leads to be bad from the get go or develop problems down the track?
Just asking cos I've had these on for years now without a problem until now, + I have them on another bike with no issues. On both bikes they are attached to 3 ohm Dyna coils.

scarfey that is an unusual one.
My issue is the bike was perfect when I parked it 6 weeks earlier..................?
