g,day scotty, from  another QLDer,, just round the corner 40klm, from eveready actually  8)

dunno about piston liners, I just went o/s pistons
have just finished rebuilding one for fella in town here, this is where I got all his motor parts

                              http://www.nwvintagecycleparts.com/

regarding gaskets - contact Bert Kingston Brisvagis - 07 38681662
the guy is a legend for older bikes..this is a guy Brian suggested

try and buy a full engine rebuild set, much cheaper than singles

in my experience a head gasket by itself approx 150-180$,,,complete engine rebuild kit about the same with many more seals gaskets,,

head,, base,, sides,, sump,,umbrella seals { valve stem },, top cover

as far as other spares just yell, there are many main engine components here in this place.

your shop guy was right though,, they don't make these parts anymore,, :'(

BUT YOU CAN STILL GET EM, ;D

you just need to know where to look,, :-\

AND YOU'VE FOUND US  ;D ;D

Anyone got some big end bearings or a reference for matching some up? Some cylider liners? Gasket sets? lol seems and thing on these takes a bit of tracking down, dont like the way the bike shops suck air through their teeth "oooh, mate, i dunno about that, dont think they make parts anymore..." yeah thanks for the help clown... /rant

welcome  mate,

interesting colour scheme don't you think ???

anyway we can help in the restoration, just ask.
a lot of us have gone down that road before you so if you need a few hens teeth we can probably show you where to source them.

good luck and keep us posted. always looking for more input.

Yes, has long been the plan... i fully restored an old Honda XL500 to do the trip on, allowing more time for it on the last plan, but it got stolen weeks after completion on a test ride. Engine wasn't even broken in fully  :'( still everything happens for a reason. Cross aus on a 500 would have been... less comfortable.

Will be an amazing life experience, and i think it is set in most Australians blood to want to see and travel out country. Now just need to finish the steed to take me there. Pics to follow shortly, perhaps in another thread with the whole dramatic saga...
Here is a tease though of what she looked like when i picked her up - looks very different now but a work in progress to say the least. Waiting on some engine parts and hens teeth...

Previous owner did a number on her, but licenced and running (for all of 20mins) so i paid $900 for her. Im in it for the long haul now, the bike should outlast me when im finished,

Welcome to the group, Scott, from the Central Queensland Contingent.
Can't wait to hear your story. Engine failure, huh? Unlucky man.
We'll help you out in any way we can, Mate.

P.S. Some pics please

Howdy, my name is Scott, and i'm a Bike-a-holic

Long time rider, first time XSive. Long time Honda fan, think i have been swayed to the Blue side by this XS, even though it ran all of 20 mins before engine failure! Another story though...

Very keen to help out, buy/swap/sell parts and generally catch up with any XSives in good old Oz. Planning a cross Australia trip on her eventually so hopefully will have a chance to meet a few.

So Hi everybody!
