There are small socket kits at places like "supercheap auto" that are fairly cheap.
They normally range in half a dozen sockets from 4mm to 12 mm. They have a thinner and straight wall and should do the job.
I f your trying to use a standard socket set like a Stanley or sidchrome I can see why your having issues.
That's only a hex head bolt..............no torx head bolt there in your pic.

Sorry if I sound dumb, but I am, what is a TORX bolt?

I have no problems with access to the bolts as the photos will show. They also show the bolt heads are recessed and cannot get a socket or spanner on them.

Not sure...but is the ign sw mounted to the top yoke ? If it is....unclamp and remove the yoke so you can better get at the bolts. If they are non torx head bolts....you may have to drill a small hole down the centre of the head and use an " easy out" tool.

I have the fairing and headlight off the bike, so access to the bolts is not a problem. I tried a socket, but it wouldn't fit as the bolts seem recessed and there is only a slight gap between the head of the bolt and the casing of the barrel.

Hi Benno,
I'm Pretty sure that the bolt heads (if original) have a Torx socket sunk in them, a T28 from memory, and can be reached by turning the bars to full lock each way and using a 3/8 socket set with a long extension & universal joint up from behind the lower clamp from each side

I want to remove the ignition switch/barrel from my RH. There are two bolts securing it from below, but you can't get a socket or spanner on them. Apart from grinding down the walls of a socket, does anyone know how to get at these bolts?
