Best carb kit?

Spose I should really start another thread...seems to be flowing from one thing to another.
But anyway ordered new float valve neddles and seats plus gaskets from RPM in USA, also factory tool for setting float level height while bike running, only good for BS 36's.
Set float heights manually to specs, then levelled carbs and measured float levels with new tool and we're all just about spot on, 3-5mm below top of float bowl.
Changed main jets to 137, and left every thing else as standard to the FJ1100 specs (ie carbs came from FJ1100).
Swapped choke slide arrangements but still have to tap threads for lever, that can be done later with carb on as I didn't have a tap.
Modified throttle cable and made a small vacuum restricter out of 5mm brake line filled with areldite drilled out to .5mm. That went to number two inlet plug, saves drilling the hole in the carbie. Breather pipes were plumbed to air box as per normal and over flow pipes added soon.
Bike started quick and settled down after a carb balance, then a test ride. No miss firing, nothing at all, pulls real hard after about 4rpm and took it 7rpm with no concerns, more coming on after that I'm sure, real happy.....
  Have it booked in for road worthy Monday but seems the blinker relay has failed me now so will have to work on that real quick....Steptoe help...

Yo,  sticky slide maybe,  happened to mine, 78' bs34's,  binds when it's full or close to full throttle and stays there,  drenches cylinder with fuel when you throttle down,  runs like a dog on 3,  comes right if ya hit a pothole or suchlike,  or drops back closed when bike cools down ,   just one out of four when it does,  if so, can polish/smooth the bind mark on the slide or just swap over places with one of the other three , you know it when bike runs perfect at full throttle,  runs shyte at anything less..   lol

So take five bucks out of ya left pocket and put it in ya right mate...
Spent the last couple of days cleaning up the BS36 carbs, using all of my new learnt skills,
Any way, cut along story short, slapped them on and kicked her in the guts and hey presto firing on all four cylinders 
So seems #1 carb of the BS34's has a fault with it, although all jets etc appear clean.
So BS36's it is from now on, glad I picked up those couple of FJ's for parts recently....

 the day started well enough, with a bit of a chat as to how the carbs were to be set up and how the bike was going to be used,,
cleaned them out and up as best I could, {with out my usual equipment}, put them in , hit the button, no choke no throttle and she sat there idling, looking good we thought till the throttle was turned on,
bugga, heaps of spark, a wet plug and a wet bore,,
plenty of fuel was the thought looking at everything, have to be lectrical, checked all the usuals still nothing, spent quite some time stuffing around till the clock chimed beer o'clock,
it was left that I,d drop another coil in, and while I was getting that Tim would clean the other carbs having had a lesson,

lets just say we don,t need the coil,,,,,, obviously there,s still a technical with #1 on the XS carbs

Five bucks in and closest guess winer takes all, or proceeds toward rally perhaps...

Thanks for that, will see if I can find one...anybody out there sort of local?
I think the next step after that may be remove the carbs again, and clean a set of B36 carbs I acquired from a FJ 11. They are in quite good order. Only done 50k odd, Will swap jets etc......
Try them first to see if #1 comes good, then do the choke and vacuum advance mod later etc.
   Talked to the original owner today after doing some research, he bought the bike from High Side Yamaha, Melbourne in 1994, I think he said, was part of a museum show peice as new with 26 kms on the clock. Has 26,500kms now. Anyone else got any info on the bike before that would love to hear from you.

Check to see if the plug thats not firing is wet when removed....if it is....replace tci with a known  good one.

No we didn't do that....didn't have one available,
But wouldn't swapping #1 and #4 high tension leads, both apparently with good spark and still no life at home in #1 alliminate an ignition problem?
Worth a shot though if I had a spare......

Hi all, been awhile and hadn't pursued the cause of this lost lung until yesterday when Steptoe kindly offered his services, much appreciated, to rectify this situation.
In a nut shell I removed the carbs, and Steptoe stripped/cleaned the carbs again. He picked up a couple of blocked passages that I had missed completely...  ..and readjusted the floats, I don't know how I stuffed that up...but I did. Also set neddles to one down from middle.
Carbs installed, tank checked, fresh fuel 91, hit the starter and hay presto, starts almost straight away......but with no life in number one again...
The situation remains the same after....
1.  Adjusted air mixture screws...
2.  Balanced carbs with carb tune...
3.  Compression test, in spec from #1 160, 150, 150, 150, #1 was 160 due to unburnt fuel?
4.  Swapped plugs, swapped high tension leads from #1 and #4.....still dead on #1....
5.  Tested resistance of primary and secondary coil leads...all in spec as per manual.
6.  Carb vent pipes are to the air box..
7.  Checked ignitor box, no visible signs of damage.
I did mention on a previous post that I thought the spark may have been week but Steptoe
reckons it is good.
Could the coil be faulty even though it tests out OK?

always No1 culprit to check dodgy spark,  pick-up coil wires.   also you'd want to bung the needles back to the middle notch

Hi all, received carbs back and broken idle needle point successfully removed..
Yesterday installed the new carb kits from Geogefix in USA.

I'm abit confused about the main jets removed being 112 (I think), but anyway appeared smaller than the installed 137.5's. Main needles were set one notch leaner, ie higher, to the top of the needle which doesn't make sense to me with the smaller original main jets?
I checked the float levels and didn't need to adjust, I used the original fibre washers under the new seats instead of the alloy ones supplied as they are a lot thinner, ie saved adjusting floats.
Installed carbs, air box, new bat, temp fuel tank and engine fired up almost straight away.
Ran ok but rich for awhile until I gave it a couple of good fist fills to about 6 or 7. It settled down to an almost nice idle but then noticed number one cylinder was out. I guessed if I balanced the carbs it should come back but it didn't. Checked all the plugs and swapped them around, didn't work. Removed CV rubber/slides and swapped with number 4, didn't work. Removed spark plugs again and noticed the spark seemed weekish. Confirmed this shortly after when I removed plug lead while running to see if cylinder was firing and got a weak boot from it, nothing like I've had from other vehicles before.
While removing carb tune number one started up when tube removed from inlet, so leaned up idle jet. Gave engine a rev and lost again back on to three.
Rode bike for about 5 k's and ran real bad. No back fires or popping through air box just two cylinders max under power and three max at idle.
Sorry about drawn out story, I'm guessing spark issues, any ideas?

No reason they aren't BS34-11. Book say's same carb as F and SF except for a smaller starter jet, agreed?
Pictures in both books, Clymer and Cycleserv look identical to carbs off my bike.

Not going to "drill out", hope he can push back with small pin punch or something. Problem is the hole is very fine where it enters the venturi.
