Yes Jeff. I've read this before. In fact I've undercut the dogs very recently and put the pics on here. It doesn't skip out of gear now which it did before I did the surgery. It does 'jump around' in first and second gear only. There's no grinding noises and no going back into neautral.

When I did the dogs I checked the selectors and they seemed straight.

This previous post might help you decide where the problem actually lies.

Fuse box installed and it looks stock standard but with the beauty of not having fuses blowing around in the wind lol

Even better, new ebc clutch plates and springs installed. What a huge difference! The gearbox feels like it's been rebuilt! The clutch is a fair bit harder to pull in but the gears are definite and easy to change! Can't wait to hit some roads tomorrow.

Has anyone had an experience with a slipping clutch. Not slowly letting go but very much instant and brief. I gave my girl a quick handful and twice I felt it let go for maybe half a second and then grab again... If I didn't know better I'd say it felt like a chain slipping over a link.

Thanks Cooper.

Got some original style mirrors (with dog leg) and a brand new fuse box to install now. Had a clutch bolt shear so waiting on a new clutch boss which should get here in the morning. Bike is colour tuned although a look at the plugs would have told me the 4th carb was way too rich. Try 5 1/4 turns lol. Can't wait to get her back on the road! Paint job shortly.

No excess. I didn't get a chance to colourtune it yet. I literally had 30 minutes to get it running better before leaving for my wedding. When I get around to it, is blue the best colour or a little more? I used a set of vacuum gauges I've had for years. Tbeyve paid for themselves over and over again!!

Did have an issue on the way to the wedding with the starter solenoid packing it in. Just bypassed it and had a great run from there:)
When I get back from my honeymoon I will have a bunch of new parts to play with!

Did you colortune the engine as well ?

Yes excess. I have a 170hp bandit motor that came about after wanting 'just a little but more;)'

I balanced the carbs today after finding a exhaust gasket off a honda that fit perfectly. It no longer sounds like a twin! Cyl 3 and 4 were way down.

When I get back from my honeymoon the valves will get a make over and then re balance. Just stoked to be able to ride the old girl to the ceremony at this stage:)

Thanks for the help excess.

Actually that is the egg thing again;) I'll look into it though. I'd love it if it's that simple!

Raf.......not doing the "Egg" thing again..........but.........regarding the gearbox.......... set the clutch adjuster at the motor as per book and see if it makes a difference . You should have no more than 15mm of freeplay at the end of the clutch lever before feeling tension.
A new clutch cable never goes astray even if you think the old one is ok.
Also in the vid it sounded like there was a leak in the exhaust which will result in backfiring and popping when de accelerating.
New exhaust gaskets are as cheap as chips ....don t forget to set the timing as well.
Get all 4 pots working in unison as one........and what you thought was a powerful engine ...redefines itself over and over again with each little tweak and correct setup.

Not at all excess. That's one of the great things about this forum. People give advice in a gentle but persuasive manner.

As for this bike. I've been running around on it for the last couple of days to properly get a feel for what needs doing most. Brakes and carb balance are first up. The gearbox is good. Although too firm for my liking. Not too concerned by the top end although I'm sure it won't be long... Oh and the rear shocks are abysmall!!! Especially two up. Might swap them over tomorrow in fact.

Overall pickup and steering are good. Brakes and cosmetics will be high priorities! Went to queensland transport and this bike hasn't been on the road for 10 years so pretty happy to bring it back!

Anyone gave a non rusty front guard or rear tail light with good chrome?

Raf...always a good feeling when it starts first time and runs and nothing goes "Bang".
FWIW......
Unless you had the choke engaged most of the time in the vid........the running on and maintaining of revs not settling down when blipping the throttle..........I detect the carbys definitely need a synch as well as a colortune and possible adjustment of the throttle cable and idle adjustment.
PS don t forget to check and adjust the shims as well.
Hope I m not telling you " how to suck eggs " .

After many posts on 'help wanted' and 'bits needed' I thought I should post some pics of one of my xs1100's incase you thought I was just hoarding bits????

Bike started as

I knew it was jumping out of second by last owner so engine out for dogging and soda blasting. Think I put pics up elsewhere about that process:)

Yada Yada Yada bike is now a goer

All I've really done is polished some bits and replaced seals, bearings etc
